Angela Sutherland, 56 of Wapello passed away on Monday, October 18, 2021 at her home. Visitation will be from 3:00 p.m. until 5:00 p.m. on Friday, October 22, 2021 at Snyder & Hollenbaugh Funeral & Cremation Services of Wapello. Memorial Services will be at 5:00 p.m. on Friday evening at the funeral home following visitation. Private family burial will be in Wapello Cemetery. A memorial has been established in Angela’s name. Angela Dawn Shafer was born on June 5, 1965 in Muscatine, the daughter of Richard Shafer and Sandra Mae Tompkins. Angela was in the Class of 1984 at Wapello High School, went on to graduate with her bachelor’s degree in Elementary Education for Iowa Wesleyan College and later received her Master’s Degree from William Penn University. Angela was a special education teacher at Wapello Elementary Schools; where her job was one of her passions in life. She enjoyed reading, music and most importantly spending time with her family.
Angela will be deeply missed by her children, Karynda (Casey) Mangold of New London, Cody (Jonathan Fritz) Shafer of West Des Moines, Levi (Samantha Bryson) Sutherland of Wapello and Jacob ( Hannah Chaney) Sutherland of Wapello; grandchildren Wyatt, Kinsley, Emmett and Mya Mangold; step-mother, Debbie Shafer of Wapello; siblings, Al (Pauline) Shafer of Davenport, John Shafer of Wapello, Mandi (Bobby) Mincer of Burlington, Brett (Abby) Shafer of Wapello, Brian (Kristin Hagberg) Shafer of Wapello, Charli Shafer of Wapello and Serah Shafer of Wapello; lifelong best friend, Loretta Estabrook and a host of extended family and friends.
Angela was preceded in death by her parents and maternal grandmother, Georgia Tompkins.
