College Football: UNI Breaks Ground on New Outdoor Practice Facility:

The University of Northern Iowa has broke ground on a new outdoor football practice facility.

The project is part of a four million upgrade to Panther football facilities.

The facility will include an oversized turf field, lighting and fencing and is funded by a gift from Iowa natives Doug and Ann Goschke and is on the site of the current outdoor practice field.

Upon completion, the facility will provide the Panthers the opportunity to have a consistent practice schedule year round in all conditions.

A new team meeting area is also being constructed.

UNI finished their truncated spring schedule 3-4.

Men’s College Basketball: Iowa State to Host Missouri in Big 12/SEC Challenge:

College Sports: US Supreme Court Rules in Favor of Athletes

Via Radio Iowa

The US Supreme Court issued a unanimous decision Monday on the pay-for-play lawsuit against the NCAA.

The Supreme Court upheld a lower court ruling that found the federal antitrust law prevents the NCAA from om restricting payment to athletes for such things as internships.

The NCAA argued that the amateur status of athletes would be impossible to maintain if they could receive pay, even for education-related expenses.

Iowa lawmakers have introduced bills that would allow college athletes to profit from the use of their name, image and likeness.

The bill introduced this year failed to advance out of the legislative session.
