Boys’ Soccer: Fort Madison Blanks Mount Pleasant

Mount Pleasant — Fort Madison opened the game up with five second half goals as the No. 11 ranked Bloodhounds rolled to a 6-0 win over Mount Pleasant last night.

Nathan Bowen scored twice for Fort Madison, while Leif Boeding added two assists.

Reiburn Turnbull made two saves for the Bloodhounds, who improved to 11-4.

Mount Pleasant fell to 1-13.

Girls’ Soccer: Bloodhounds Earn OT Win

Fort Madison — Natalie Randolph’s two goal performance lifted Fort Madison to a thrilling extra time 4-3 win over Mount Pleasant last night.

Elly Manning, Tori Wilson and Andrea Lopreato all scored for the Panthers while Charice Auwerda picked up an assist.

Evelyn Escobar made six saves.

Fort Madison improved to 10-2.

Mount Pleasant fell to 7-5 and they’ll be back on the pitch

College Softball: Anderson, Indian Hills Advance to NJCAA District Championship

Ottumwa — Former Winfield-Mount Union star Madie Anderson pitched a complete game, two-hit shutout for Indians Hills, as the Warriors defeated Southeastern 3-0.

The win advances Indian Hills o the Midwest District Championships.

Anderson’s gem won her her team-high 17th game of the year. The former Lady Wolves ace struck out six batters without issuing a walk to hold the Blackhawks scoreless.

The region championship was the 25th in school history.

Boys’ Prep Tennis: District Play Commences Today

Fairfield — District singles and doubles meets will begin today with Mount Pleasant competing in Class 1A at Fairfield and Maharishi.

Also playing at Fairfield today will be Davenport Assumption, Fairfield, Fort Madison, Keokuk, Maharishi, Notre Dame and Cedar Rapids Xavier.

Qualifiers will advance to the singles and doubles state tournament and if applicable, the team district and substate tournaments.

The singles and doubles state tournament is currently scheduled for May 24-25.

Preliminary substate team meets will feature the third-place district finisher at the second-place district finisher.

Those single-dual meets are scheduled for 10 a.m. on Friday, May 13.

Girls’ Prep Tennis: SEC Title on the Line Today

Fort Madison — The Southeast Conference tennis title is on the line today when the league hosts it’s conference tournament.

Competing today at Fort Madison will be Burlington, Fairfield, Keokuk, Mount Pleasant and the host Bloodhounds.

Fort Madison is the conference leader at 5-3.

Mount Pleasant enters the conference season 2-8.

They’re led by No. 1 singles player Savana Walls, head coach Martha Peterson is in here first season at the helm.

College Baseball: Wesleyan’s Season Ends

Lawrenceville (GA.) — Iowa Wesleyan’s season came to a close last night with a 9-6 loss to Fisher College in an elimination game at the Continental Athletic Conference baseball tournament.

Derek Marrufo and Sage Bonner both went 3-for-5 at the plate, with Marrufo tallying two doubles.

Former Mediapolis standout Cauy Massner was the pitcher of record, throwing two innings allowing four hits and two runs, only one earned.

Carter Fletcher and Daniel Roberts also both threw for Wesleyan, who closes their season 21-30.

The 21 wins this season is a 12-win improvement from last year’s mark.

Prep Soccer: Mount Pleasant Takes on Fort Madison in Home and Home

KILJ — The Mount Pleasant boys’ and girls’ soccer teams will be back on the pitch tonight when they take on Fort Madison in a home-and-home.

The Panther boys’ will host the 11th ranked Bloodhounds at East Lake Park, with kick slated for 4:30 p.m.

Fort Madison enters play tonight with a record of 10-4.

The Mount Pleasant boys’ are 1-12 and were beaten 11-0 the last time the two teams met up.

Meanwhile the Panther girls’ are 7-4 and will play at Baxter Sports Complex in Fort Madison.

The Bloodhounds are 9-2 on the year and took down Mount Pleasant 5-3 back on April 21st this year.

Kick in Fort Madison is slated for 5:00 p.m.

Girls’ Prep Track: Mount Pleasant Girls’ Tabbed SEC Champions

Mount Pleasant — It always seemed like momentum was swelling to this outcome. Scott Lamm’s Mount Pleasant girls’ track team won yet another Southeast Conference title last night, cruising to the team championship after racking up 204 points and seven individual titles.

Jadan Brumbaugh was a double winner, earning a conference title in both the shot put and discus.

The Iowa State recruit went 48 feet, 6.5 inches in the shot and 118 feet, 5 inches in the discus.

Abby Blint had a clean sweep in her three individual events, winning the 800, 1,5000 and 3,000m run, putting on an impressive showing in relatively unpleasant conditions.

Kenna Lamm also won the 100m dash — the Panther senior finishing in 12.79.

Fairfield was the conference runner up with 133 points. Washington placed third with 101, while Fort Madison, Burlington and Keokuk rounded out the basement.
