Kim Kingery is the featured artist for October and November at the Mount Pleasant Arts IMPACT gallery in the Public Library. Kingery is a Southeast Iowa photographer and a 1998 MPCHS graduate.

Kingery earned her BA in General Education/Art with a minor in Psychology from the University of Central Missouri. She’s the mother of one boy, a school bus driver, and photography/small business owner.

Kim has been a photographer for nearly her entire life. After having her son, she decided that “I needed to dive back in, showing him to always follow your passions in life.”

One of the main things that she hopes to come out of her photography work is to show her son that he should “always follow his passions in life.”

She said, “I liked to take pictures of friends, family, various activities, and objects. Not much has changed in that aspect, except changes from film to digital photography.”

For subject matter, Kim explains that “I shoot whatever catches my eye; I’m generally more of a realist.”

“I often catch a variety of images that include landscapes, wildlife, old barns, and architecture — the oddities on the backroads of SE Iowa,” she stated.

On Kim’s bucket list is to travel to other states searching for the interesting and unique to photograph. In the meantime her photography business finds her capturing memories for families or being out photographing locally to preserve images that catch her eye.

Her passion for photography is inspired by the belief that “Photos are lasting memories for when OUR memories fade.”

Kim Kingery’s photography exhibit will be on free public display through November at the Mount Pleasant Public Library during regular business hours Monday thru Thursday 9:00 am – 8 pm; Friday 9:00 am to 5:30 pm, and Saturday 9 am to 2 pm.

AMES, Iowa— The Iowa 4-H Foundation is launching its annual special 24-hour event, Iowa 4-H Giving Day (www.iowa4Hgivingday.org), on October 4th and 5th from Noon to Noon during National 4-H Week.

Each year on Iowa 4-H Giving Day, supporters across the country come together to financially support Iowa’s largest youth organization, to ensure these opportunities continue to be available to youth across the state and at the county level.

“On Iowa 4-H Giving Day, we’re celebrating all that 4-H’ers have accomplished, how they’ve grown and how they support their communities,” said Emily Saveraid, Iowa 4-H Foundation Executive Director. “It’s great opportunity for 4-H supporters and alumni to give back and celebrate the program that is making a difference in every zip code in Iowa.”

Dollars raised on Iowa 4-H Giving Day go directly to the 4-H Program delivered by Iowa State University Extension and Outreach and to provide other opportunities– state recognition, national 4-H trips, college scholarships and special programs, which enhance the Iowa 4-H experience. Iowa 4-H Giving Day is proudly sponsored by Farm Bureau Financial Services.

The Iowa 4-H Foundation is a 501(c)3 nonprofit organization that provides private financial resources to develop and deliver quality 4-H youth programs to nearly 100,000 young people throughout the state of Iowa. These programs and opportunities help enhance 4-H’ers’ ability to use critical thinking, leadership, communication, and social skills.

The Mount Pleasant High School Panther Marching Band brought home eleven trophies Saturday night after a full day of competitions at the Mark Twain Invitational in Center, Missouri.

They won first place in every possible category and capped off the day by being named Grand Champion among all bands in all classes.

There were four competitions including parade marching, indoor color guard, indoor percussion and field show, with the Panther Marching Band placing first in their class in each contest. Mount Pleasant picked up all caption awards including Best Drum Majors, juniors Jolynn Keomanivong and Natalie McCormick.

Van Buren County High School also participated in this event, placing second in parade marching and fourth in field show competition in their class.

The Iowa Wesleyan University 2022 Homecoming Royalty were announced Friday night during Boom Night activities on campus. This year’s Homecoming Queen is Karoline Stratton of Dubuque, Iowa. The King is Moses Eason II from Baxley Georgia. The Homecoming Princess is Ayana Lewis and the Prince is Asaivian “Sai” McWilliams.

The Enhance Henry County Community Foundation has been notified it will soon be receiving a $160,670 state award to advance community based philanthropy throughout Henry County.

The award comes by way of the County Endowment Fund which was established by HF 2302 in the 2004 Legislative Session.  The purpose of this legislation is to provide financial support to encourage the creation and development of community foundations and civic philanthropy throughout Iowa.

Under terms of the legislation the Enhance Henry County Community Foundation will direct 75 percent of the award to foundation grantmaking activities and 25 percent will be placed in the Foundation’s permanent endowment. This allocation ratio provides the opportunity to assist local projects immediately as well as help build an endowment for the future of the county.

Since its establishment in 2004, the Enhance Henry County Community Foundation has awarded over $1,625,000 in grants to over 60 county organizations and charities.  Together these awards have leveraged over $10,000,000 in new projects for Henry County.

 The permanent endowment of the Enhance Henry County Community Foundation is now $568,000.  We encourage local individuals and institutions to learn more about the benefits of working with our foundation.
