June Darlene Judd

June Darlene Judd, 82, of Danville passed away on Tuesday, December 1, 2020, at the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics in Iowa City from injury’s she received from an accident.

 

Graveside Services will be held on Saturday, December 5, 2020, at 2 p.m. at the Carman Cemetery, Carman, Illinois.  A memorial has been established in her memory.

 

Murphy Funeral Home of Mt. Pleasant are caring for her arrangements.

Jerry E. Wells

Jerry E. Wells, 84, of Mt. Pleasant, died Tuesday, December 1, 2020 at the Great River Medical Center in West Burlington.

A funeral mass for Mr. Wells will be celebrated at 10:30 AM on Wednesday, December 9 at St. Alphonsus Catholic Church, 607 S. Jackson St., Mt. Pleasant. Father Paul Connolly will celebrate the mass. Burial will be in the St. Alphonsus Cemetery will military honors conducted by the US Naval Funeral Honors Detail and the Henry County Honor Guard. Friends may call from 10 AM – 7 PM on Tuesday, Dec. 8 at the Kimzey Funeral Home. The family will not be present.

The funeral mass will be livestreamed on the St. Alphonsus Church website. Masks will be required, and social distancing guidelines will be in place for the visitation and funeral mass. Memorials in lieu of flowers will be directed to Veterans charities to be determined later. On line condolences may be left at www.kimzeyfuneralhome.com.

Jerry Eugene Wells was born December 29, 1935 in Omaha, NE. He was the son of Orville Eugene and Hilda Opal (Powers) Wells. Jerry moved with his family to Mt. Pleasant when he was a year old. He attended Mt. Pleasant High School where he played football and entered the US Naval Reserves. Jerry graduated in 1954 and entered the US Navy. He served aboard the USS Wontauck and the USS Whitemarsh. On September 15, 1956 at St. James the Less Catholic Church in St. Paul, IA, Jerry was united in marriage to Georgine Sporkman.

Jerry began his working career as a bricklayer and later owned his own brick making company. He accepted a position in the Maintenance Dept. of the Iowa State Penitentiary in Ft. Madison. He rose to become the Maintenance Supervisor of the prison from which he retired.

Mr. Wells was a 64-year member of St. Alphonsus Catholic Church and the Knights of Columbus Council of Houghton, and the American Legion Robert Tribby Post #58 of Mt. Pleasant. He was a life-long residence on his family’s farm where he enjoyed gardening, hunting and mushrooming. Cutting wood brought great satisfaction to Jerry, as did building “campfires” with his children and grandchildren.

Those thankful for sharing in Jerry’s life include his wife of over 60 years, Georgine of Mt. Pleasant; 2 daughters and their husbands – Debbie & John Mascarenas of Mt. Pleasant and Donna & Dennis Maloney of Lake Worth, FL; 7 grandchildren – Bobbie (Mark) Sieren, Jamie (Joe) Guerra, Mindie (Michael) Duke, Evan (Kadie) Johannson, Justice (Marcelo) Barreto, Ayla (Dillon) Armstrong and Harley Carle and 5 great grandchildren.

His mother and father, step-father, Lloyd Alliman, and a grandson, Matthew Manning, precede Jerry in death.

Jerry Wells

David Singleton

David Singleton, 71, of Wapello, IA, passed away on Sunday, November 29, 2020 at his home.   A celebration of life will be held at a later date with burial in Mallory Cemetery.   Memorials have been established for the Wapello Fire and Rescue and the Wapello VFW.    Sympathy notes may be left for the family at www.sandhfuneralservice.com.

David Gale Singleton was born on November 18, 1949, the son of Gale and Lois (Milligan) Singleton.  David was a 1967 graduate of Wapello High School and then went to work for a little time at the Iowa Ammunition Plant in West Burlington.   He proudly served his country in the United States Navy aboard the USS Kitty Hawk, during the Vietnam War.  On July 7, 1973, he was united in marriage to Michelle West in Wapello.   David worked for Rath Packing for 10 years and retired in 2004 from Grain Processing Corporation.  He was a former member of the Wapello Jaycees.  David enjoyed hunting, fishing, golfing, mushroom hunting, going to crappie tournaments with Mike and his younger days he enjoyed going to the demolition derbies.

David will be missed by his wife, Michelle; children, Shad (Angela) Singleton of Mora, Minnesota, Sara (Mike) Maddux of Wapello and Seth (Teilsen) Singleton of Wapello; grandchildren, Schae, Wyatt, Tate, Landry, Owen and Teagan and one sister, Sharon (Don) Wood of Wapello.

David will be preceded in death by parents and one brother, Mike Singleton.

Bertha Boyd

Bertha Boyd, 91, of Mt. Pleasant passed away on Monday, November 30, 2020, at the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics in Iowa City.

According to her wishes cremation has been entrusted to the care of Murphy Funeral Home of Mt. Pleasant.

No Services will be held.

Audrey Christy

Audrey A. Christy, 82, of Mt. Pleasant, died Monday, November 30, 2020 at Arbor Court in Mt. Pleasant.

Audrey was born July 3, 1938, in Des Moines, Iowa, daughter of Frank and Eva (Figgins) Benge. She graduated from Bloomfield High School in 1955 and attended business school in Des Moines. On December 31, 1955, Audrey married Edward R. Cowles, they later divorced. On January 25, 2000 she married Larry Christy. They made their home in Ottumwa and moved to Mt. Pleasant in 2004. Audrey worked as a stenographer, was an assistant to Iowa Senator Jake Minks and later as an office manager at a medical clinic. Audrey was a member of the Calvary Baptist Church and loved playing the Lowrey organ.

Audrey is survived by her husband Larry of Mt. Pleasant; three sons, Victor (Rita) Cowles of Ames, John Cowles of Newton, Marc Cowles of Utah; two stepchildren Michael (Deborah) Christy of Madison, MS, Kara Kay (Rob) McElroy of Ottumwa; daughter Pam Cowles of Bloomfield; 11 grandchildren, 19 great grandchildren, 2 great great grandchildren, 5 step grandchildren, 4 step great grandchildren; 3 sisters, Jane Kibler of Des Moines, Carol (Phillip) Crippin of Carlisle, Glorene Claus of Kansas City, MO, and a brother Jesse (Nancy) Benge of Norwalk.

She was preceded in death by her parents, a sister Marti Birchmier and a brother Richard Benge.

Funeral service will be held 10:00 am on Monday, December 7, 2020 at the Calvary Baptist Church in Mt. Pleasant. Burial will be in the Bloomfield IOOF Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 4:00 until 6:00 p.m. on Sunday, December 6, 2020 at the Calvary Baptist Church in Mt. Pleasant. A memorial fund has been established for the Calvary Baptist Church. The Olson-Powell Chapel is caring for Audrey and her family. Social distancing guidelines will be followed and masks are required for attendance. The service will be livestreamed on Powell Funeral Homes Facebook page and at our website, www.powellfuneralhomes.com.
