Billy George Marshall, Sr.

Billy George Marshall, Sr., 93, of Wapello, passed away on Monday, December 20, 2021 at Wapello Specialty Care.  Graveside Service will be 11:00 a.m. on  Monday, December 27, 2021 at the Wapello Cemetery.  A luncheon will follow at the Wapello United Methodist Church.  Memorials have been established for the Wapello United Methodist Church, Wapello Fire Department or the Wapello Ambulance.  Sympathy messages can be left for the family at www.sandfuneralservice.com.  Snyder and Hollenbaugh Funeral Home and Cremation Services of Wapello is caring for the family.

 

Billy George Marshall was born on March 6, 1928 in Wapello, Iowa, the son of Elmer and Lillian (Vollmer) Marshall.  Billy George was a 1946 graduate of Wapello High School.  He proudly served his country in the United States Army during the Korean War and continued his career in the Military for over 20 years.  On April 1, 1950, Billy George was united in marriage to Wanda Lou Lihs in Grand Junction, Kansas.  Upon his return to Wapello, Billy George served as a police officer; worked alongside his wife, Wanda at the Hyway Pantry, Colonial Daycare, Dairy Bar, Laundromat and the NAPA Store, before at last retiring from the Wapello Elementary where he worked as a custodian for many years.   Billy George loved tinkering on small engines and will always be remembered for mowing his yard with a cigar in hand.

 

Billy George will be deeply missed by his children, Diana (Dave) Foor of Florida, Debbie Hollingsworth of Wapello and Billy George (Cindy) Marshall Jr. of Wapello; ten grandchildren, Lisa, Kristy, Billy, Luke, Lynn (Darin), Les (Lindsay), Laura (BJ), Jason (Kristen), Aaron (Valerie) and Brian (Brigette); 17 great-grandchildren who are local to the area and two great-great grandchildren.

 

Billy George was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Wanda in 2008; son-in-law, Don Hollingsworth; brothers, Bob, Keith and Gene and infant sister.
