Charles S. “Charlie” Rose, 106, of Mt. Pleasant, formerly of Ottumwa died Tuesday, August 18, 2022 at his residence.
A celebration of life will be held at a later date, with interment of Charlie’s ashes at the Coatsville, Cemetery, Coatsville, Missouri. Cremation rites have been entrusted to the Kimzey Funeral Home, 213 N. Main St., Mt. Pleasant. On-Line condolences may be directed to www.kimzeyfuneralhome.com
Charles Seldon “Charlie” Rose was born May 19, 1916 in LaBelle, Missouri. He was the son of Estus and Nettie Rose. He graduated from Ottumwa High School. On March 31, 1940 in Ottumwa, Charlie was united in marriage to Mary Louise Ulmer. The couple later divorced. He later married Jeanette Bennett. The couple later divorced.
Charlie farmed early in his life. He then went to work for the Garretson Equipment Company as a Tool & Die Specialist. He remained there for 26 years, from which he retired. He resided several years in Florida after his retirement, but later chose to return to Iowa to be near his family.
Charlie enjoyed the nature and being outdoors, whether it was fishing or working in his garden. He loved to read, most especially Louis Lamour novels. Charlie was also very handy. His work in the tool and die trade allowed him to be an inventor of several items. Having lived through the Great Depression, Charlie learned to be very resourceful. Charlie’s family was near and dear to him, and he treasured the time he spent with them.
Those thankful for sharing in Charlie’s life include his children – Pat (Doran) Bollman of Pulaski, IA, Linda (Gale) Bogle of Agency, IA, Vicki (Tim) Lohmann of Mt. Pleasant and Jim Rose of Mt. Pleasant; a son-in-law, Dean Bolin of Mt. Pleasant; 18 grandchildren and several great and great-great grandchildren.
His parents, both former wives, a daughter – Judy Rose Bolin and a brother, George Rose, precede Charlie in death.
