Cyndi Champlin (final arrangements)

Cynthia Anne “Cyndi” Champlin, 67, of Mt. Pleasant, died Wednesday, March 9, 2022 at the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics in Iowa City.

A Memorial Celebration of Life for Cyndi will be held at 11:00 AM on Monday, March 14 at the Welllspring Evangelical Free Church, 2501 South Grand Ave., Mt. Pleasant. The Reverend Tye Male, Pastor, will officiate. Burial will be at a later date in North Dakota. Friends may call from 12 Noon – 7 PM on Sunday, March 13 at the Kimzey Funeral Home, 213 N. Main St., Mt. Pleasant. The family will be present to receive friends from 2-4 PM Sunday afternoon. On-Line condolences may be directed to www.kimzeyfuneralhome.com.

Cyndi, the former Cynthia Anne Dombeck, was born August 26, 1954 in Bismarck, North Dakota. She was the daughter of Raymond and Lorna (Tavis) Dombeck. Cyndi graduated from St. Mary’s High School in Bismarck. She was conferred with a Bachelor of Art degree in Art and Biology from the University of North Dakota in Fargo. On June 17 & 18, 1977 in Bismarck, Cyndi was united in marriage to Douglas Wynn Champlin (you’ll have to ask Doug about the reason for 2 dates).

Cyndi and Doug made their home in Austin, MN and near Omaha, NE before moving to Mt. Pleasant some 30 years ago. Cyndi was a stay-at-home mom, but later employed her education by becoming a substitute teacher for the Mt. Pleasant Community School District. She remained a substitute teacher for 15 years. Primarily, Cyndi was a gifted artist. She ran her own art studio, Nowadays. She displayed her artworks at numerous farmers markets and other art shows around Southeast Iowa and other parts of the Midwest. Painting was her medium. She created beautiful art work on both canvas and glass. Cyndi was a devoted member of the Wellspring Evangelical Free Church.

Those thankful for sharing in Cyndi’s life include her husband, Doug, of Mt. Pleasant; a son and his wife – Raymond and Katie Champlin of Urbandale; 2 grandchildren – Caleb and Isabel Champlin; a sister – Mary Kaiser of New Jersey and a host of friends and colleagues.
