Dale Kenneth Wilson

Dale Kenneth Wilson, 96, of West Point, Iowa, passed away at 12:15 p.m. Sunday, May 1, 2022, at his home.

He was born on October 31, 1925, in Pleasant Ridge Township near West Point, Iowa, the son of Roy and Maude (Bogert) Wilson.

He was preceded in death by his parents and sister: Irene. He was the last surviving member of his family.

Dale was a member and former Elder of the West Point Presbyterian Church and a member of the West Point American Legion Holtz-Geers Post #668. He attended the one room grade schools at Peachblow and Woolen’s Corner. He graduated from the Denmark Academy High School in 1943. He was a veteran of World War II and served with the 11th Air Cargo Resupply Squadron in Luzon. In earlier years, Dale was the water boy for the Pleasant Ridge thrashing ring and later, drove a team and bundle wagon thrashing when he was thirteen. He farmed all his life. In later years, Dale and his sister, Irene, farmed the home place together until their retirement. He had lived on the same farm in Pleasant Ridge for nearly ninety-five years. Dale was also proud of his heritage. He was the oldest direct descendant of early Lee County Pioneer, Hugh Wilson. Dale enjoyed mowing the lawn with his John Deere, his dog and being outdoors.

Visitation will be held from 12:00 noon to 6:00 p.m. Thursday, May 5, 2022, at Schmitz Funeral Home, West Point.

A funeral service will be held at 1:30 p.m. Friday, May 6, 2022, at Schmitz Funeral Home in West Point with Pastor Larry Shipley officiating.

Burial will be at Fairview Cemetery rural Fort Madison, Iowa with full military rites presented by the West Point American Legion.

A memorial has been established in his memory for West Point Presbyterian Church.
