This is Earth Day

Spring Clean up is taking place in Houghton.  Appliances, tv’s and large items need to be on your curb by 7 am for pick up. E waste and hazardous waste can be taken to the Houghton City Hall/Fire Station between 8 am and 9:30 am.

Washington County 4-H will host a Pancakes & More Breakfast Fundraiser at the Washington County Fairgrounds in the basement of Dallmeyer Hall.  All proceeds will go towards the 4-H enrollment fees for Washington County 4-Hers. Breakfast will be served from 7:00 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. and includes pancakes, scrambled eggs, sausage patties, and a drink.  Free will donation.   Dine in, drive up or carry out available.  The breakfast is held in conjunction with an IJBBA Open Cattle Show sponsored by Washington County 4-H County Council and Washington County Fair Association that starts at 11 a.m which is open to the public to watch for free.  There will be two show rings offering exhibitors two chances to show and compete.  There is also a 4-H Horse Hitch Clinic running at 10 a.m. and 1 p.m. at the horse arena open to the public to watch.

The Mount Pleasant City Compost site is open Wednesdays from 1 pm to 6 pm and on Saturdays from 8 am to 5 pm. The site is located behind Saunders Park at the intersection of Yocum Lane and Hoaglin Drive.

The Second Annual “Walk for Nohema” will take place in Chautauqua (shuh-talk-wuh) Park in Fairfield from 10 am to noon.  A silent auctionw ill be held at 11:45 am. This coincides with the Trojan Athletic Boosters’ fundraiser clothing sale at the Fairfield High School from 9 am to 3 pm.

The Des Moines County Master Gardeners are hosting a free Spring Wildflower Walk from 1 to 4 pm at Starr’s Cave Nature Center and at the prairie classroom at Aldo Leopold Middle School.

The Ultimate Warrior Pageant will be held at 7 p.m. in the WACO High School gymnasium. Come for an evening of entertainment as some of WACO’s finest young men represent school activities in categories of teamwear, talent, and style & wit.  During intermission, there will also be a chance for the audience to vote with cash donations for the “people’s choice” pageant contestant.  Admission is $5 per person.  All funds raised support WACO activities.  Do you like dessert?  Do you want to support students in WACO HS Extracurricular Activities?  Come to the Ultimate Warrior Pageant this Saturday. Bidding begins before the show and concludes at the end of intermission. Winners will be announced before the end of the show.  Desserts can be taken home with winners that night!

The Southeast Iowa Symphony Orchestra presents its’ third and final Masterworks Series Concert of the 72nd Season. Concerts will be held this evening at 7:30 pm at Burlington’s Capital Theater and Sunday at 2 pm at the Bridge View Center in Ottumwa, wrapping up Sunday at 6:30 pm at the Iowa Wesleyan Chapel in Mount Pleasant.

The 5th Annual Bonaparte Music Bonanza will be held at the Bonaparte School. Doors open at 5:30 pm for the soup supper. The Show starts at 7 pm. Tickets are $15 at the door. Age 5 years and under free. No advance sales or reserve seating.

This is Prom Night for Mount Pleasant Christian School, Mediapolis, Van Buren County Community and Winfield Mt.Union!

The Annual Mount Pleasant City Spring  Clean Up will take place the week of April 24. Pickup will take place on the same day as the normal city pick up for your neighborhood.  You don’t have to utilize the city system in order to put items on the curb for the spring clean up but the items will need the city’s green stickers.
