Join Lee County Conservation and Izaak Walton League Green Bay Chapter for their Youth Fishing Clinic for anyone under 16 from 8:30am-11:30am at Pollmiller Park in West Point! Kids will get to practice their fishing skills, win prizes, and get a free lunch. Fishing poles and bait are offered and the event is on Free Fishing Weekend, meaning any Iowa resident can fish without a license.

Stride into Summer Family Walk at East Lake Park in Mount Pleasant! This is a free event and wills tart by the tennis courts. Visit fun, family friendly activity stations as you walk a loop through the park. A wagon or stroller is recommended. This will take place from 1:00pm-4:00pm. Examples of activities include a fingerprint/kids ID kit from Sheriff’s Office, summer safety info, kids games, giveaways, healthy snack, and even a firetruck and ambulance! The Winfield Historical Society presents “The Importance of Quilts and Textiles During the Civil War” with author and historian Becky Wright.  Becky will dress in period costume for the presentation, have artifacts and many items on display.  Becky is a master quilter and will also have books she has written for sale.  This event begins at 2:00pm at the Veterans Building in Winfield, Iowa.

The Consul General of the Polish Consulate in Chicago, Dr. Pawel Zyzak, will visit Polishville  from 3:00-4:30 pm. Please join us at the Polishville Community Center to celebrate this very special and unique visit. The center is 10 miles northeast of Fairfield and 5 miles south of Brighton on the graveled 136th Street. Look for signs on Pleasant Plain Road or Germanville Road. The first summer concert of the Burlington Muni Band will be its “Teddy Bear’s Picnic” concert at 7:30 this evening at the Crapo Park bandshell with Janel Horn, Edward Stone Middle School band director, conducting.    See a teddy bear parade for kids and listen to outstanding area middle school band students who will join the band.  The Burlington Public Library, ADDS, Community Action of Southeast Iowa, The BHS Music Boosters, the STEM Foundation and the Art Center of Burlington, are all joining with the band in providing music-related activities from 6:00 to 7:00 PM prior to the concert. (These will include a music activity wall, bean shakers, a story walk, and a teddy bear repair hospital.  Kids are encouraged to bring their teddy bears.  Teddy bears will be provided for those who don’t have one.)  The band’s new bear mascot will make an appearance and the band is asking the public for help in giving him a name. All of the band’s concerts are free of charge.  In case of rain the concert will move to the James Madison Educational Center Auditorium at 2132 Madison Ave.
