Iowa State University Extension and Outreach will offer a Field Crop Scout School  at the Southeast Research and Demonstration Farm near Crawfordsville.  The Field Crop Scout School is intended to be a foundational course, providing essential information for effective and efficient crop scouting. The program features sessions such as corn and soybean growth and development, pest identification and scouting methods for crop scouts. Advance registration is required. The cost of $150 includes the above printed and digital publications, lunch and refreshments. Registration for the course closes May 10 and the course is limited to 60 students. The Field Crop Scout School will be held at Iowa State’s Southeast Research and Demonstration Farm, 3115 Louisa-Washington Road, Crawfordsville. Check-in begins at 8:30 a.m., with the program running from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.

The Mt. Pleasant Community School District 5th and 6th grade Bands present their Spring Concert in Central Park, downtown Mt. Pleasant.  This event begins at 7:00pm!  In case of rain, the concert will be held at the Middle School.  This event is free and open to the public.

Des Moines County Conservation is teaming up with Louisa County Conservation, Lee County Conservation, and Van Buren County Conservation for the 2024 Spring Hike A Park series! The next hike is scheduled at Morris Park in Van Buren County from 4-5 PM. Participants should meet at the parking lot. The address to the park is 10938 Timber Rd, Stockport, IA 52651. These hikes are open to everyone and are completely free to join. There’s no need to sign up; just come to the park prepared to hike between 1 to 4 miles. Participants may leave at any time. If you’re interested in carpooling, give us a call at the nature center. Each hike will be led by experienced naturalists who will guide you through the park and answer any questions you might have.
