Floyd Patten

Floyd W. Patten, 68, of Middletown, IA, and formerly of Mt. Pleasant and the Storm Lake, Sioux Rapids and Spencer areas of Iowa, died in the Emergency Room of the Southeast Iowa Regional Medical Center in West Burlington, IA.

Floyd was born March 16, 1956 in Sioux Rapids, IA. He was the son of William and Naoma Patten. He graduated from Sioux Valley High School. Floyd entered the United States Marine Corps on January 9, 1976. Floyd served as a Mortarman and Light Vehicle Operator. He was honorably discharged on October 8, 1979 and remained in the Marine Reserves until December 18, 1981. He was united in marriage to Patricia Eades and the couple shared two children, Matthew and Melissa. They later divorced. Floyd went on to meet and become engaged to his life partner Gloria Palmer.

Floyd was a life long over-the-road truck driver. He drove for many companies in his career. He was a die-hard Iowa Hawkeyes fan. He enjoyed watching NASCAR, and was a fan of Dale Earnhardt and Dale Earnhardt, Jr. He loved baseball and softball and was an umpire for Little League and high school baseball.

Survivors include his two children – Matt (Bonnie) Patten of Omaha, NE and Melissa (Garrett) Halverson of Alta, Iowa; his fiancée, Gloria Palmer of Middletown; his grandchildren – Evelyn, Micah and Silas and his siblings – Edwin, Sheryl and Jerry. Also surviving are members of Gloria’s family: her children – Michael, Angela, Brian and Jamie; her grandchildren – Allie, Braden and Caitlyn and great grandchildren – Paisley and Phoebe.

Floyd’s parents and Gloria’s grandchildren Jasmine and Ryan, precede Floyd in death.

A graveside committal service of Floyd’s ashes will be held at 10AM on Saturday, May 18 at the Fulton-Cairo Cemetery north of Winfield, IA. Military Honors will be presented by the Marines Funeral Honors Detail and the Henry County Honor Guard.
