Using automatic headlights in fog is generally a good idea; however, they may not always activate in foggy conditions because the light sensor might still detect enough brightness outside the vehicle. It’s important to manually turn on your low beams and fog lights when driving in heavy fog as automatic headlights might not be sufficient in such situations.
