Gladys L. Vorhies, 74, of Fairfield and formerly of Lockridge passed away on Sunday, August 2, 2026, at the Southeast Iowa Regional Medical Center in West Burlington.
Gladys was born on August 29, 1951, in Grantsburg, Illinois, the daughter of Robert Clarence and Edna Louise (Leonard) Moore. She was united in marriage to Donald K. Vorhies on March 2, 1970, in Lockridge, Iowa. He preceded her in death on January 21, 2008.
She worked for the Metro Group before her retirement. She enjoyed thrift shopping, tending to her flowers and feeding the squirrels. Gladys attended the Word of Life Lutheran Church in Fairfield.
Those thankful for sharing in her life include her children, Judy (David) Waugh, of Libertyville and Jason Vorhies (Stephanie Merrill), of Fairfield, her grandchildren, Holly Baird, Fred Waugh (Hannah Wells), Delanie (Brendan) Dickson and Ava Grace Vorhies and her great grandchildren, Grayson and Bodie Dickson, along with her bonus grandchildren, Jazlyn Merrill and Atley Merrill.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, three brothers, Jim Moore, John Moore and Lyle Moore and two sisters in infancy, Carolyn Sue Moore and Judy K. Moore.
According to her wishes cremation has been entrusted to the care of Murphy Funeral Home of Mount Pleasant. A private family graveside service will be held at the Vorhies Cemetery.
