Joey D. Ferguson (final arrangements)

Joey D. Ferguson, 65, of Ft. Madison and formerly of Mt. Pleasant, died Friday, March 31, 2023 at the Southeast Iowa Regional Medical Center in West Burlington.

A funeral procession will form at 10:30 AM on Thursday, April 6 at the Kimzey Funeral Home, 213 N. Main Street, Mt. Pleasant. The graveside funeral service for Joey will be held at 11 AM at the White Oak Cemetery, rural Rome, IA. Pastor Guy Sammons of the Rome Baptist Church will officiate. Friends may call from 4-8 PM Wednesday, April 5 at the funeral home. The family will be present to receive friends from 5-7 PM.

Joey Dale Ferguson was born June 5, 1957 in Mount Pleasant. He was the son of Walter Junior and Esta (Sammons) Ferguson. He graduated from Mt. Pleasant Community High School in 1975. During his time in school, Joey was a drummer for the high school band. Joey then earned his associate degree from a business college in Spencer, IA. On March 13, 1976 at the Rome Baptist Church, Rome, IA, Joey was united in marriage to Debra L. Norton.

Joey began working in the accounting field for various companies. He then moved his concentration as an accountant for agricultural companies and cooperatives.

Joey served in the US Army Reserves and with the Iowa National Guard as a combat engineer Company D. 224th Engineer Battalion of Mt. Pleasant. He was honorably discharged as a Sergeant on May 6, 1983.

Joey was a die-hard Iowa State Cyclones fan. He enjoyed fishing and golfing.

Those thankful for sharing in Joey’s life include his wife Deb of Ft. Madison; 3 children – Lynn (Brock) Volner of Mt. Pleasant, Aaron (Kimberly) Ferguson of Minneapolis, MN and Michelle Ferguson of Ft. Madison; brothers – Larry (Jennifer) Ferguson of Atlanta, GA, Sonny Ferguson of Mt. Pleasant and Rusty (Sheryl) Ferguson of Stillwater, MN; a sister – April (Kevin) Perron of Mt. Pleasant; a half-brother – Everett (Susie) Ferguson of Davenport, IA; a half-sister – Linda Ferguson of Utah; 5 grandchildren, 2 step-grandchildren and 4 great grandchildren.

His parents, a half-brother – Steve Ferguson and a half-sister, Judy McGriff, precede Joey in death.
