Joseph “Joe” Klopfenstein, 94, of Winfield, passed away on Tuesday, January 16, 2024, at Sunrise Terrace in Winfield. Visitation will be held on Saturday, January 20, 2024 from 1:00 p.m. – 3:30 p.m. with a time of sharing at 3:30 p.m. at the Snyder & Hollenbaugh Funeral & Cremation Services of Winfield. Burial will be in the Winfield Scott Township Cemetery at a later date. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to the Big Red Pride Booster Club in memory of Joe. Joseph Roy Klopfenstein was born on November 6, 1929, the son of Frederick Edward and Hazel Alice (Fletcher) Klopfenstein. He was a graduate of Winfield High School and attended Iowa State University. Joe proudly served his country in the United States Army in Occupied Germany. On June 14, 1953, Joe was united in marriage to Ruth LaVon Johnson. He was a farmer in the Winfield area his entire life. Joe was a member of the Winfield United Methodist Church, American Legion #643 and the Winfield Scott Township Cemetery Board. He enjoyed being in the outdoors, arrowhead and mushroom hunting and watching high school and college sports, especially football and wrestling.
Joe will be deeply missed by his children, Paul Micheal (Carrie) Klopfenstein of Winfield, Rex Wayne Klopfenstein of Golden, Colorado, Betty Jo (Gary) Metz of Parker, Colorado and Sara Ann (Timothy) Tuschen of Omaha, Nebraska; eight grandchildren and five great grandchildren.
Joe was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Ruth on October 23, 2023; one child at birth; brothers, Phillip (LaVonne) Klopfenstein and William (Lenore) Klopfenstein and sister, Alice (Alan) Trees.
