Larry Dean Moore, 88, of Mount Pleasant and formerly of Aledo, Illinois, passed away on Wednesday, August 5, 2026, at the Iowa City Veterans Medical Center.
Larry was born on May 21, 1938, at home in rural Mercer County, Illinois, the son of John A. and Joan (Anjal) Moore. He attended Sunnyside, a one room rural school and then went to elementary school in Viola, Illinois. He graduated from Aledo High School in 1956. Following his high school graduation, he entered the United States Navy in July of 1956 and was honorably discharged in 1960. Larry was honored to have served aboard the USS Midway in the Pacific.
He lived in the Aledo community for a few years following his military service and was a member of the Aledo Volunteer Fire Department, along with the local Veterans of Foreign Wars. Larry was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, since 1982. He raced his own stock car mostly at the Mississippi Valley Fairgrounds in Davenport in the mid and late 60’s. He was a big fan of all dirt track racing and especially liked NASCAR.
Larry was united in marriage to Carolyn Exline on March 1, 2015, in New London.
Those thankful for sharing in his life include his wife, Carolyn, of Mount Pleasant, his children, Curtis Moore, Jessica (Rozell) Williams, many beloved grandchildren and great grandchildren, his brothers, Alan (Terry) Moore, Donnie (Paula) Gladfelter and his sisters, Rita (Steve) Crick and Laurel Richardson.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his stepmother, his son, Jason Moore, his sisters, Carol Moore and Phyllis Epperly.
Graveside services will be held on Tuesday, August 11, 2026, at 11:00 a.m. at the Aledo Cemetery in Aledo, Illinois. Friends may call after 2 p.m. on Monday at the Murphy Funeral Home of Mount Pleasant where the family will be present from 4 to 8 p.m. that evening. Memorials may be directed to the Iowa City Veterans Medical Center in his memory.
