Larry Kent Kindig, Jr.

Larry Kent Kindig, Jr., 61, of Mt. Pleasant, died Saturday, December 10, 2022 at the Jefferson County Health Center in Fairfield.

Larry Kent Kindig, Jr. was born November 3, 1961 in Mt. Pleasant. He was the son of Larry Kent and Maycle Ann (Jennings) Kindig, Sr. He graduated from Mt. Pleasant Community High School in 1980. On October 20, 1984 at the First United Methodist Church in Mt. Pleasant, Larry was united in marriage to Gail Ann Wellington.

Larry was a lifelong carpenter and farmer. He began his carpentry career with the H. Eugene Smith Construction Co. of Mt. Pleasant. Larry then became a carpenter with the Carpenters Union Local 1260 of Iowa City. While with the union, Larry completed all types of carpentry for the Calucci Construction Company and the Millard Construction Company. He rose to become a supervisor for the companies, overseeing multiple building projects. All during his carpentry career, Larry farmed the family farm with his grandfather and sons.

Larry was an avid arrowhead hunter with his friend Jeff and son Dustin. He loved to watch NASCAR and was a major fan of Dale and Dale Jr. Earnhardt. All his life he remained a loyal supporter of the New York Yankees and Dallas Cowboys. He loved to play cards, especially Euchre and shoot pool with his friends. Larry was an avid deer and turkey hunter and treasured the hunting time with his friends. Larry loved all the Blue Heeler dogs he had and his newest dog, a Red Heeler named Elly. Most of all, Larry remained a very proud father of his sons.

Those thankful for sharing in Larry’s life include his wife of 44 years, Gail of Mt. Pleasant; two sons – Drew Kindig and his wife Claudia and Dustin Kindig, all of Mt. Pleasant; his mother – Maycle Kindig of Mt. Pleasant and a sister and her husband – Debbie and Greg Perrott.

His father Larry Sr. preceded him in death in 2008.

A private family prayer service will be held. Friends may call after 12 Noon on Friday, Dec. 16 at the Kimzey Funeral Home, 213 N. Main St., Mt. Pleasant. The family will be present to receive friends from 5-8 PM on Friday.
