Linda Lee Barrett, 80, of Fairfield, IA and formerly of Mt. Pleasant, IA and St. Louis, MO, passed away on Sunday, August 9, 2026 at the Parkview Care Center in Fairfield.
Linda was born July 27, 1946 in Mt. Pleasant. She was the daughter of Dale Delbert Hamilton and Ruby Bernice (Thomas) Hamilton Ballou. She attended school in Burlington and graduated from West Branch (IA) High School as a member of the Class of 1964. She later attended classes at Southeastern Community College in West Burlington.
Linda was united in marriage to John Patrick Michael Zimmerman on June 6, 1964. The couple later divorced. On December 5, 1980, Linda married Robert Percival Barrett. The couple later divorced.
Linda first worked as a data processor. She transitioned that role into becoming a “Head Hunter” for an agency owned by her best friend and wife, placing people into positions world-wide.
Linda lived most of her life in St. Louis, where she loved to travel. “Wild Hare” ideas and designing clothing were her passions. She was able to travel to Europe where she visited the Netherland and Germany. She also traveled to Paris where she was able to visit the retail stores of her favorite designers – Coco Channel, Louis Viton and Christian Dior.
Linda was a fond and doting grandmother to her grandchildren.
Those thankful for sharing in Linda’s life include her 2 daughters and their husbands – Debra (Bob) Booton of Mt. Pleasant and Jennifer (Royce Takari) Barrett of St. Louis; a sister and two brothers – Barb Lynchard, Tom Ballou and Richard Ballou, all of Mt. Pleasant; her grandchildren – Natasha (Dan) Heick, John (Diana) Wenke, Aryianna Batie, Zee and Zuri Kakari; a bonus grandson – Willie Burton; a great granddaughter – Sophia; a nephew, Nick; a niece, Amanda; 3 great nephews and 4 great nieces.
Her father, mother, step father David Ballou and brother-in-law Tom Lynchard precede Linda in death.
Linda asked that she be remembered in people’s hearts in lieu of a formal funeral service. Cremation rites have been entrusted to the Kimzey Funeral Home, 213 North Main Street, Mt. Pleasant.
