Micaiah Samuel Mullen

Micaiah Samuel Mullen, 34, was born on June 13, 1988 to Willie Louis and Betty Jean (Barney) Mullen in Mt. Pleasant (Henry Co.) Iowa. The was the youngest of three children. Micaiah departed this life on Wednesday, October 5, 2022 at the Henry County Health Center.

Micaiah accepted Christ at the age of six at Second Baptist Church, (now Second Baptist Ministries) in Mt. Pleasant, under the leadership of the Reverend Tony Campbell. Micaiah maintained his membership there.

Micaiah received elementary education at the Owls Nest, Saunders and Van Allen Elementary Schools and Mt. Pleasant Community Middle School. He was a 2006 graduate of Mt. Pleasant Community High School. Micaiah attended and earned credits in the field of Culinary Art from Kirkwood Community College in Cedar Rapids and continued studies at Southeastern Community College in Burlington.

During his early years, he played Little League Baseball. Later, he participated in football, basketball and track. He enjoyed playing pool and traveling. Micaiah’s favorite sport was basketball, which he played until ninth grade. He was an avid fan of the Los Angeles Lakers and Dallas Cowboys.

He enjoyed working at Wal Mart and at Sirloin Stockade as a chef. However, his employment was short-lived due to medical concerns.

Micaiah was a family-oriented person. He was loving, caring, gentle, polite and thoughtful, always thinking of the “underdog.” Micaiah loved his daughter Vanessa very much and took pride in all her achievements. He loved his brothers, Willie and Cedrick, and often expressed a desire to go on a trip with them.

Micaiah was preceded in death by his maternal grandmother – Leanna Barney Collins (James); paternal grandparents  Sam & Mary Mullen; uncles – Sam Mullen, Jr., Jake Mullen, George Mullen, Howard Collins, James Collins, Jr., Albert Bennett, Sr and Walter Collins and aunts – Frances Mullen, Mary (Mullen) Hairston, Gloria Collins and Lena Collins.

He leaves to cherish his memory his daughter Vanessa Skye Woodsmall and her mother Jessica (who was Micaiah’s special friends and longtime classmate), both of Burlington; his parents – Willie & Betty Mullen of Mt. Pleasant; 2 brothers, their wives and children – Willie & Yolanda Barney, Nehemiah & Priscilla of Omaha, NE and Cedric & Bridget Mullen, Avery & Connor of Plymouth, MN; aunt – Delores Bennett and her children Betinia (Darryl) Wade, Carolyn (Robert) Hill, Albert (Tia) Bennett, Timmy (Franchester) Bennet and Michael Bennett, all of Greenville, MS; uncle – Timmy (Myrna) Collins and their children Christopher (Vanessa) Collins, Antonio Collins and Miriam Collins Holms, all of Salinas, CA; uncle – Curtis (Stephanie) Barney and daughter Naudia of North Liberty, IA; uncle – Fleming Mullen & children Pat & Fleming; uncle – Jerome Mullen & his children – Jerome Jr., Valarie, Treva, Germerish of New York; uncle – Herbert (Ernestine) Mullen of Demopolis, AL; aunts Mabel Mullen & Minnie Scott of Demopolis, AL; aunt Ann Mullen and daughter Ina (Darrin) Hawkins of Washington, DC; aunt Diane (Dwayne) Hogan and children Jermaine (Piper) Hogan, Mariah (Jeremy) McMorris and Aaron (Maria) Hogan of Snellville, GA; aunt – Juanita Collins and daughter Brianna of Greenville, MS as well as a host of friends.

The funeral service for Micaiah will be 10:30 AM on Saturday, October 22nd at the Iowa Wesleyan University Chapel. The Reverend Tony Campbell of the Second Baptist Church, Mt. Pleasant, will officiate. The funeral will be livestreamed on the Kimzey Funeral Home Facebook Page. Burial will be in the Forest Home Cemetery, Mt. Pleasant. Visitation will be from 12 Noon to 8 PM on Thursday, October 20th and Friday, October 21st at the Kimzey Funeral Home, 213 N. Main St., Mt. Pleasant. Micaiah’s family will be present to receive friends on Friday from 4-7 PM.
