NWS: Advisories for Today

The National Weather Service has issued two advisories for the KILJ listening area – one for snow and one for extreme cold.  The winter weather advisory was in effect at 6am today through 3pm this afternoon.  Total snow accumulations are predicted to be between 2 and 4 inches. Isolated totals could exceed 4 inches near the Highway 34 corridor.  This snowfall is expected to cause slippery roads and may make travel difficult.

The cold weather advisory takes effect at 6pm this evening through noon on Sunday.  The NWS is predicting wind chills to bring the temperature to as low as 20-30 degrees below zero. The dangerously cold wind chills as low as 30 below zero could cause frostbite on exposed skin in as little as 30 minutes. Make frequent checks on older family, friends, and neighbors. Ensure portable heaters are used correctly. Do not use generators or grills inside.
