Daily Jail Count

Henry County Jail

In the interest of keeping Henry County residents informed, the Henry County Sheriff’s office has requested KILJ post the daily jail count. Shots fired call UPDATE

On 4/12/22 at approximately 20:33 hours, the Mt Pleasant Police Department was dispatched to the W Broad St. and N Jackson St area for a call of a large fight. While enroute officers were notified of shots fired.

The initial investigation determined that numerous people had been fighting (20 plus). At some point a handgun was displayed and eventually shot, striking an 18 year old local victim. The victim was transported to the hospital and later released with minor injuries.

Due to the proximity and concern, an Iowa Wesleyan University dorm room was placed on lock down and searched. Two suspects were identified and one was quickly located. The other one was found a short time later. They were both taken into custody and eventually transported to the Henry County Jail. They were both charged with Participating in a riot, an Aggravated Misdemeanor.

The investigation is still ongoing and there is no concern for public safety. There will be further follow up and more charges will be forthcoming.

There is numerous video footage that has been turned in. Anyone with any information is asked to contact the Mt Pleasant PD.

There will be more information being released later.

The Mt Pleasant PD was assisted by the Henry County Sheriff’s Office, New London PD, Iowa State Patrol, Washington Tactical Response team, Probation and Parole, Winfield PD, Iowa Wesleyan University, and Mt Pleasant Community School District.

Anyone who sees suspicious activity is encouraged to contact the Mt Pleasant PD at 319 385-1450.
