From the Mount Pleasant Police Department

On January 18, 2022, at approximately 15:57 hours, a male runaway from the Christamore House was located on S Iris Rd in Mt Pleasant IA and transported back to the facility.

 

On January 18, 2022, at approximately 17:55 hurs,  two runaway girls were reported from the Christamore House, including the same girl that has been involved in two stolen cars.

 

At 21:57 hours, a car was reported stolen and last seen by the Illinois State Police headed into the city of Chicago.

 

Anyone with any information is asked to contact the Mt Pleasant PD

 

The Mt Pleasant PD encourages people to lock the vehicles and residences.

Anyone who sees suspicious activity is encouraged to contact the Mt Pleasant PD at 319 385-1450.

 

Daily Jail Count

In the interest of keeping Henry County residents informed, the Henry County Sheriff’s office has requested KILJ post the daily jail count. During the jail referendum campaign it was publicized that the jail would be able to house additional inmates from surrounding counties and this would generate revenue for Henry County.

Townhall Update Meetings Re: Hunting & Trapping

The Iowa Department of Natural Resources (DNR) is hosting a series of town hall-style meetings where local staff will provide updates on recently completed hunting and trapping seasons, discuss possible changes to hunting and trapping rules and regulations, and address other topics as requested.

“We want people to come out to these meetings, listen to the seasons reviews, ask questions and hear directly from our staff,” said Todd Bishop, chief of the Iowa DNR’s Wildlife Bureau. “Part of the meeting will be devoted to discussing potential rule changes and collecting feedback as we work through the rules process.”

The meetings are open to the public. Comments collected from these public meetings will be considered along with other related comments received by the Iowa DNR prior to proposing changes to hunting rules and regulations. Proposed rules will be presented to the Natural Resource Commission during a regular public meeting for consideration and additional public comment.

Trevor Layne Brown

Trevor Layne Brown, 43, of Mount Pleasant died Saturday, January 15, 2022, at the University of Iowa Hospital and Clinics in Iowa City following a brief battle with cancer.

Trevor was born March 10, 1978, in Mount Pleasant, the son of Marty and Donna (McDonald) Brown.  He graduated from Mount Pleasant High School in 1996.  He worked for HCM Plastics of Fairfield for the last 18 years.  He was a lifelong Hawkeye, Cowboys and St. Louis Cardinal fan.  He loved to be outdoors hunting, fishing or golfing.  He loved his nieces and nephews and attending their activities.

Trevor is survived by his parents, Marty and Donna Brown; a sister, Monica (Jim) Mueller; a brother, Chris (Cherie) Brown; his grandmother, Mary Brown all of Mount Pleasant; nieces and nephews, Brea, Will, and Josh Mueller, Adelynn, Maggie and Emarann Brown; and many aunts, uncles and cousins.

He was preceded in death by his maternal grandparents, Joe and Ruth McDonald; and paternal grandfather Darrel Brown.

A visitation will be held from 10:00 am until 3:00 pm Saturday, January 22, 2022, at the Olson-Powell Memorial Chapel where the family will greet friends from 1:00 – 3:00 pm.  There will be no formal service.  Inurnment will be at a later date in the St. Alphonsus Cemetery.  In lieu of flowers a memorial fund has been established to help with Trevor’s medical expenses.  Checks can be made payable to Donna Brown and mailed to 505 N Lee Street, Mount Pleasant.  www.powellfuneralhomes.com

Prep Wrestling: Panthers Travel to Fairfield; Other Area Scraps

KILJ — The Mount Pleasant wrestling team will be back on the mat tonight when they travel to Fairfield for a Southeast Conference dual.

The Panthers are looking to get back in the win column as we head towards postseason wrestling time.

Tonight’s dual will begin at Fairfield High School at 6:30 p.m.

JV will also wrestle tonight, as well.

Other scraps in the Southeast Conference:

Prep Wrestling: New London, Notre Dame Host Home Triangulars

KILJ — The New London and Notre Dame wrestling teams are hosting triangulars, headline what should be a great night of Super Conference wrestling.

New London, who has had one of the most difficult schedules in the state this season, will welcome in Highland and WACO.

Notre Dame, the No. 2 ranked team in Class 2A, will host Cardinal and Pekin.

Both of those bouts will begin at 6:00 p.m. tonight.

Columbus Community/Winfield-Mount Union will also host a home triangular this evening.

The Wildcats will bring in Quinten Aney and the Mediapolis Bulldogs, as well as Van Buren County.

They too will begin at 6:00 p.m.

 

College Basketball: Iowa, UNI and Drake All Beaten

Rutgers 48, Iowa 46 

Iowa’s Keegan Murray had a chance to win it at the horn, but his three point attempt missed as Iowa lost a 48-46 slog to Rutgers last night in Piscataway.

Murray led the Hawkeyes with 13 points and 13 boards.

Patrick McCaffery had 11 points for the Hawkeyes, as well.

Iowa is now 13-5 and 3-4 in Big Ten play.

Valpo 83, UNI 80 (F/OT)

UNI saw their five-game winning streak come to a close last night with an 83-80 defeat by Valparaiso in overtime.

Noah Carter paced the Panthers with 33 points, 10 rebounds and five dimes.

Bowen Born had 11 for UNI.

UNI is now 9-8 and 5-2 in Missouri Valley action.

Bradley 83, Drake 71

Drake dropped just their second league game in an 83-71 loss to Bradley last night.

Tucker DeVries finished with 17 points for the Bulldogs while Garrett Sturtz added 15.

Roman Penn had 14 points and three assists .

Drake fell to 13-6 overall and 4-2 in the conference.

College Baseball: Texas Preseason No. 1

KILJ — In College Baseball, Texas checks in as the preseason No. 1 team in the country in the latest D1Baseball.com poll.

The Longhorns finished last year 50-17.

Arkansas, Vanderbilt, Mississippi State and Ole Miss round out the top-five.

Iowa is unranked.

The Hawkeyes open the season next month at the Swig and Swine Classic in Charleston, South Carolina.

They’ll get matchups there with Air Force, Ball State and Bucknell.
