Lee County Supervisor Resigns After Public Intoxication Citation

Lee County Board Chairman and District 2 Supervisor Tom Schulz has resigned following allegations that he was intoxicated during Tuesday’s Board of Supervisors meeting.

Schulz appeared to slur his words and struggle to focus during the meeting before leaving to speak with EMS staff and later being transported to the hospital. After returning to the county office building, deputies attempted to speak with him, but he left for his home.

Authorities later made contact with him and cited him for public intoxication. Schulz, who was elected in 2022 and previously served on the Fort Madison City Council, submitted his resignation Thursday morning.

County Attorney Ross Braden said the case will proceed through the court system and believes Schulz made the right decision by stepping down.
