Kay (June) Johnson, age 83, passed away peacefully with her son and daughter–in–law by her side on Thursday, November 20, 2025 at Halcyon House in Washington, Iowa. The daughter of Maurice William and Ethel (Murray) June, Kay was born on June 11, 1942, in Burlington, Iowa.Kay and her family lived in New London until 1944 when Ethel and her daughters moved to Burlington. At the end of the war in 1945, Kay went to live with her maternal grandparents, Charles and Iva (Calhoun) Murray who farmed north of Wapello. Kay attended school in Grandview, Iowa from kindergarten through 4th grade. In 1952, following the death of her grandfather, Kay, her sister, her mother and grandmother moved to Wapello. In 1954, Kay’s mother Ethel married Merton Ask ren who became the patriarch of the newly formed family.A graduate of Wapello High School in 1960, Kay was active in marching and concert band, choir and basketball.On December 14, 1960, Kay married Norman Johnson of Wapello in Iowa City. Norman was drafted into the U.S. Army in 1962, and the couple spent 2 years at the U.S. Military Academy in West Point, NY where Kay worked as a waitress at the Hotel Thayer. After the couple returned to Iowa in 1964,Kay attended Burlington Business College and then worked as a secretary at B.L. Robinson Electric Supply from 1965 until 1968. In September of 1968, Kay and Norman adopted their daughter Gwen, and Kay gave birth to their son Charles in August of 1969.In 1979, the family moved back to Wapello and Kay worked as the bookkeeper at Tillman Motor Company, the local Ford dealership for many years, and then as a cashier at Jack and Jill Grocery Store.Kay enjoyed playing cards with her friends and watching her children’s and grandchildren’s sports and  music activities. Kay and Norman enjoyed camping and taking their children on RAGBRAI five times in the 1980’s. Kay and Norman loved to dance and would go dancing on the weekends whenever they had a chance.More opportunities to dance came after retirement when Kay and Norman would winter in Mission,TX. They spent over 10 years travelling there to spend time with their new friends to escape the Iowa winters. Following Norman’s death on May 24, 2016, Kay returned to Mission, TX in the winters of 2017and 2018 before health issues limited her ability to return.Kay was a member of the First Presbyterian Church and Order of the Eastern Star, both in Wapello.Kay is survived by her son, Charles (Lisa) Johnson of Kalona, Iowa; her sister, Barbara Lancaster of DesMoines, Iowa; grandchildren, Courtney (Alexander) Chandrea of Asbury, Iowa and Cassidy Johnson of Truckee, California; step–grandchildren Logan Wadsworth of Ft. Donna Rae Thacker, 85, of Mount Pleasant, IA passed away peacefully on Saturday, November 22, 2025,at her home. A funeral service to honor her life will begin at 1:00 p.m. on Wednesday, November 26,2025, at the Cranston Family Funeral Home in Fairfield, IA with Chaplin Don Combs officiating. Donna Rae Thacker was born on August 4, 1940, in Des Moines, IA, to Howard and Zora Fauble Swain.Donna spent her early years in Council Bluffs, Iowa, where she attended school and graduated with the Abraham Lincoln High School Class of 1959.Soon after graduation, Donna married the love of her life, Marvin Thacker.

Together, they built a loving family and became proud parents to two children: Marvin Jr. and Teri. Donna embraced her role as a devoted mother and homemaker, creating a warm and welcoming home where her children’s friends always felt invited—thanks, in part, to her delicious home–baked treats, always fresh from the oven.Throughout their life together, Donna and Marvin lived in several different locations, including Council Bluffs, Fairfield, IA, Stratton, NB, and Mount Pleasant, Iowa, as they traveled for Marvin’s work. Donna’s commitment to learning led her to further her education; she earned her LPN and worked at St. Joseph Hospital in Omaha, NE before starting her family. Later in life, while residing in Stratton, NE, Donna returned to school and obtained her associate’s degree in psychology.

Donna’s proudest accomplishments were her roles as a loving wife and mother. She was Marvin Sr.’s steadfast companion, journeying with him wherever his work would take them. Donna also found time to contribute to her community as an active member of the “Welcome Wagon” organization, greeting new families to town, and she spent several years as an AVON saleswoman.A gifted writer, Donna penned short stories and poems, with some of her works reaching publication.Her creativity, generosity, and unwavering devotion to her family touched the lives of many. She will be deeply missed but forever remembered.Donna was preceded in death by her parents and a brother, Howard Lynn Swain.

Left to honor her memory is her husband of 65 years, Marvin Thacker Sr. of Mount Pleasant, IA; her two children, Marvin Jr. (Tina Trump) of Libertyville, IA and Teri (Matt) Zeitler of Douds, IA, as well as many cherished grandchildren, great grandchildren, extended family and friends.

Arloene Shy, 92, of Mt. Pleasant, died Sunday, November 23, 2025 at theSoutheast Iowa Hospice House in West Burlington.

Mrs. Shy, the former Arloene Paxton was born February 26, 1933 in Ollie, IA. Shewas the daughter of Clayton and Holly Paxton. She graduated from the Pekin Community School District High School. She was united in marriage to Daryl D. Shy, Sr. Mr. Shy preceded in death in 2002.

Arloene was the longtime manager of the McLellan Department Store in Washington. Residing in Mt. Pleasant for about the past 10 years, she attended the Lincoln Street Baptist Church.Those thankful for sharing in Arloene’s life include her 2 children – Daryl D. Shy, Jr.and his wife Mary and Barbara Renee Shy, all of Mt. Pleasant and a granddaughter –Elizabeth Shy of New York.Her parents, husband and 3 siblings – Frances, James “Jim” and Dean precede Arloene in death.

A private family graveside service will be held on Tuesday, November 25 at the Ollie Cemetery in Ollie, IA, where interment will take place.
