The Mount Pleasant Street Committee will meet on Wednesday, September 27th, 2023, at 4:30 p.m. at City Hall in the City Administrators’ Conference Room.
AGENDA
The Henry County Conservation Board will hold a special board meeting on Wednesday, September 27, 2023, at 4:30 p.m. in the conservation board meeting room at the office in Oakland Mills.
Items on the agenda will include an update on the South-Shore Sanitation System. The Conservation board will discuss different options presented by an engineering firm.

High School Football
Mt. Pleasant will head to Washington this Friday as the Demons celebrate their Homecoming. KILJ will be on the call with the pregame show at 7:15 pm.
In other Class 3A District 4 matchups, Keokuk will travel to face off against Fort Madison and Mt. Vernon will host Assumption.
Fairfield will host Williamsburg this Friday, the #1 team in Class 3A.
Mediapolis will travel to take on Mid-Prairie at 7 pm.
Columbus will host Louisa-Muscatine this Friday.
Central Lee will hit the road to take on West Burlington this Friday.
Danville will host Van Buren County this Friday for their Homecoming.
#10 WACO will travel to New London this Friday for the Tigers’ homecoming.
#1 Winfield-Mt. Union will hit the road to face off against Iowa Valley at 7 pm.
High School Volleyball
Mt. Pleasant took on Fairfield in a road conference matchup last night and started slowly dropping the first two sets, but battled back to force a fourth set after winning set three 26-24. Fairfield would reclaim the momentum and win their 11th game of the season. The Panthers will compete in the Northeast Volleyball Invitational on Saturday, September 30th.
Winfield-Mt. Union will travel to Louisa-Muscatine tomorrow, September 28th.
WACO will compete at home tomorrow against Wapello at 7:30 pm.
New London and Central Lee participated in a back-and-forth match that saw the Tigers win three sets to two, avenging their loss in Southeast Iowa Super Conference pool play last week. Taylor Jones tallied 28 kills in the effort with Ellie Lake notching 41 assists for the Hawks. The Tigers will take on #15 West Burlington tomorrow.
Van Buren County looked for an upset on their senior night against #2 Holy Trinity Catholic and had the match tied at one set apiece. Nevertheless, the Crusaders won the next two sets by scores of 25-18 and 25-20. Holy Trinity Catholic will stay on the road to face off against Central Lee on October 3rd.
Van Buren County will take on Mediapolis on October 3rd.
Danville will compete against Central Lee tomorrow at home.
Mediapolis will travel to take on Burlington Notre Dame tomorrow night.
Cross Country
The Washington Invitational ran yesterday with the Mt. Pleasant boys varsity team finishing in 4th place behind three ranked teams. Washington collected the win as Micah Rees captured first place with a time of 15 minutes and 49 seconds. Ben Carthey was the top finisher for the Panthers with a time of 17 minutes and 7 seconds, good enough for fifth place. Jude Dykstra took 9th place and Locken Henderson finished in 13th place.
WACO’s top finisher was Keiran Luitjens in 36th place with a time of 19 minutes and 37 seconds. Tristan Luitjens was the next Warrior in 47th place.
Avery Rump of Fort Madison might have finished first but Washington took first place as a team for the girls varsity race, led by Iris Dahl’s third place finish and four Demons finishing 9th through 12th. Jayden Yoder and Nelle Peterson led the way for the Panthers with finishes of 37th place and 40th place, respectively, both with sub-25 minute times.
Justine Lynn was WACO’s top finisher with a time of 26 minutes and 57 seconds.
The Mt. Pleasant middle school girls team took first place as a team with Avery Felder leading the Panthers, finishing first overall. Quintrie Lee, Elodie Rawson, Josie Dykstra, and Bella Dodds all finished within the top 10.
The Mt. Pleasant middle school boys team captured third place as a team with Jalen Tolander and Finn Kramer finishing in 10th and 11th place, respectively.
Mt. Pleasant’s next meet will be October 2nd hosted by Hillcrest Academy.
Danville will run at the Bud Williams Invitational tomorrow, September 28th.
The Southeast Iowa Super Conference (SEISC) meet will be run next Thursday, October 5th.
College Football
The University of Iowa will be at home this Saturday, September 30th, to take on Michigan State.
Iowa State University faces off against Oklahoma this Saturday on the road.

The Louisa County Sheriff’s Office was dispatched to the Morning Sun area for a report of a person having a mental health crisis. On September 25th, 2023, there were two separate calls to the office.
This person was by themselves and was no threat to any other individuals. Certain streets were blocked off periodically to aid in the support of this individual.
The individual was provided with the necessary care thanks to the Louisa County Sheriff’s Office, and to the Columbus Junction Police Department, the Morning Sun Ambulance, and the Wapello Ambulance.

New London Community School District is excited to offer the opportunity to everyone for an “open house.” There were many renovations and new construction since the passing of the Bond Referendum in September of 2021. The work has been completed, and only minor punch list items are still being taken care of.
Friday, September 29, 2023 they will host an open house for all that would like to walk through the facilities and see the changes and improvements. This includes a new 3rd and 4th grade classroom, a new library, improved parking, and more.
There will be a slide show of all the construction pictures that were collected throughout the project and a flyer that highlights the main points of the project as well for you to look through.
Following the open house, you are invited to stay for the home football game and our student Homecoming events. 
Community Days on the Campus of Iowa Wesleyan have been announced for the following dates and buildings:
September 27 – Gymnasium and Student Union
October 4 – PEO Building
October 11 – Old Main and Pioneer Hall
October 18 – Library
Each scheduled day the building will be open from 1 – 7 PM. Community Days are open to the public. Items not attached to the wall may be taken at no charge. This is a first come, first serve event, no holding items. No power tools are allowed. A small wagon is allowed to help carry.
