Graveside services will be held on Saturday, October 29, 2022, at 10:00 a.m. at the Salem East Cemetery.

High School Volleyball
The Region 8 Regional Championship is set with Burlington Notre Dame facing off with Holy Trinity Catholic tonight, October 26th, with KILJ on the call with pregame at 6:45 pm. The Nikes are 2-0 over the Crusaders this year having won 5 sets out of the 6 played.
New London will face off against the number one team in Class 1A, Springville, tonight with Jeff Broeg on the call on KILJ 98.5 FM with the game set to start at 7 pm.
High School Football
The WACO Warriors will host Central City for the second round of the playoffs for 8-man football. KILJ will have the call with pregame at 6:45 pm, kickoff at 7. The other matchup in WACO’s pod is Easton Valley traveling to play Montezuma.
In Mt. Pleasant’s district, North Scott will play Western Dubuque in the first round of the playoffs. Iowa City Liberty will host Webster City in the first round of the playoffs. Fort Madison will travel to play Waverly-Shell Rock this Friday.

The Mount Pleasant Panthers Cross Country team had a runner qualify for State in their last race at Washington. Ben Carthey finished in 7th place with his best time of the season, 16 minutes 40 seconds. Carthey had been finishing in the top 10 for all of his races this season, slowly improving his time from race to race, and shaved 1 minute 5 seconds off his time from the beginning of the season.
Ben Carthey will run at the state meet Saturday, October 29th, at 11:45 am at Fort Dodge.

Iowa Wesleyan Athletics
The men’s soccer team came out on top against Morningside University 1-0 yesterday. Richard Arch scored his fifth goal of the season off an assist by Thomas Mullen in the 19th minute of the game. Their next game will be Saturday, October 29th, against Waldorf University at 3 pm.
The women’s basketball schedule was released as the squad is led by the 2022 CAC Coach of the Year, Steve Williamson. Look out for Breanna Wendland this season, who was First-Team All-Conference last year. Their first game will be tomorrow, October 27th, against College of Saint Mary’s in the Saint Mary’s Classic. Their first home game will be November 2nd against William Woods.
The men’s basketball team opens the season against Dickinson State on October 28th in the Bellevue Classic at 3 pm.
The Tiger volleyball team will play Monmouth College on the road at 7 pm tonight, October 26th.
The Tiger football team will be back at home this Saturday, October 29th, to take on Dakota State University at 1 pm.

Beginning in November, Henry County Public Health will only be giving the COVID-19 vaccines on Thursdays. November 3rd and 17th will be from 9-5:30 and November 10th will be from 9-3:30. We do have the new COVID-19 bivalent boosters which protect against both the original COVID-19 strain and the more recent omicron variants. Anyone age 5 or older is eligible as long as it’s been at least 2 months from either your last dose in your primary series or your most recent booster. There is no cost for any of the COVID-19 vaccines.
Flu shots are available during those November COVID-19 clinics as well as during regular immunization clinic hours on Tuesdays 9-11 and Wednesdays 1-4. The cost is $40 unless we can bill your insurance. Unfortunately we are out of the high dose flu shots for the year.

Dale D. Schillerstrom, 86, of Lockridge, passed away Monday, October 24, 2022 at his home.
Funeral services will be held Thursday, October 27, 2022 at 2 pm at the Salem Congregational Church in Salem with Pastyor AAron Helterbran officiating. Burial will follow in the Lambirth Cemetery with full military honors. Friends may call after 2 pm Wednesday at the Murphy Funeral Home of Mount Pleasant where the family will be present from 5 to 8 pm that evening. Domestic Violence Non-Profit Will Partner With Local Grocery Stores in Burlington and Mount Pleasant for Goods Drive During Domestic Violence Awareness Month
Burlington, Iowa: The Domestic Violence Intervention Program (DVIP) will host a Shop for Safety donation drive on October 26th, 2022 from 4:00 PM- 7:00 PM. Participating stores include both HyVee locations in Burlington (3140 W Agency St and 939 Angular St) and the HyVee in Mount Pleasant (1700 E Washington St).
DVIP volunteers and staff will be onsite at each location to solicit donations for the organization’s most needed items. The goods collected at this event will provide hygiene items, household cleaning supplies, and gift cards for over 900 individuals the agency serves in their southern service region each year.
“In-kind donations are a crucial part of our work in helping victim-survivors,” said Alta Medea, Director of Community Engagement. “By providing folks with the basic necessities we, as a community, can allow them to focus on their next steps to safety.”
DVIP has reported a dramatic increase in the number of individuals served in their southern tier of counties. Ms. Medea explained, “In the past year DVIP assisted 929 individuals in our rural areas. This number has increased 38% YOY. An increase of this size means we need more resources to serve victim/survivors in our community.”

Tony Carter Clark, 68, of Urbandale passed away at his home on October 23, 2022. Visitation will open at 2:00 PM on Friday October 28, 2022 with the family present from 5:00 PM until 7:00 PM at Pedrick Funeral Home in Keosauqua, IA. A graveside service will be at 11:00 AM on Saturday October 29, 2022 at Spencer Cemetery in Stockport with Pastor Nathan Chaplin officiating. Tony was born on December 25, 1953 in Keosauqua to Eugene Morris and Ramona Maree Carter Clark. He grew up in Stockport Iowa and was involved with all kinds of sports as a kid. During his high school years and early college days he worked at Prairie Grain and painted for T.K. Enterprises. Tony graduated from Van Buren High School in 1972 and then went on to college at the University of Iowa from which he graduated with a bachelor’s degree in accounting. While at the University of Iowa he joined the Alpha Kappa Psi Fraternity and was an active life-long member. After graduating college, he started his career in accounting with Blue Cross Blue Shield. He then became a partner in Pinnacle Management Midwest. From there, he started his own business, Pinnacle Management Consulting. He carried the designation CHBC (Certified Healthcare Business Consultant) and was a member of the Iowa Certified Public Accountants Association. He enjoyed attending Hawkeye football games, Cardinal baseball, and spending time at the family farm.
Left to cherish his memory are his significant other, Kathryn Hempel of Urbandale, Kathryn’s children, grandchildren, and great-grandchild; three sisters, Dena Clark of Stockport, Tammy Clark of Tetonia, ID and Madge Clark of Stockport; two uncles, Richard Carter of Indianola and Robert Carter of Ann Arbor, MI; a nephew, Eric Bradfield of Fairfield and many other family members and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents.

Burlington Notre Dame will move on to the Regional Championship for Region 8 as they defeated the Winfield-Mt. Union Wolves in straight sets by scores of 25-20, 27-25, and 25-16. Gabby Deery had a spectacular game talling 20 kills with a hitting efficiency of 0.333. Maddy Mosena finished the night with 34 assists, while Emily Stutsman had 3 aces. Coach Davis talked about the matchup that awaits him on Wednesday. Winfield-Mt. Union’s season does end here but Coach discussed his senior class after the game.
Holy Trinity Catholic and WACO battled but the Crusaders came out on top winning 3 sets to 1, 25-6, 23-25, 28-26, and 25-17. The Warriors were led by Ellah Kissell who tallied 13 kills, and Grace Coble who finished with 30 assists. The Region 8 Regional Championship is set with Burlington Notre Dame facing off with Holy Trinity Catholic tomorrow, October 26th, with KILJ on the call with pregame at 6:45 pm.

The men’s basketball schedule was released with this being Coach Jordan Ashton’s first year, he will have talented players returning to the court in Joey Brown and Carver Locke. They open the season against Dickinson State on October 28th in the Bellevue Classic. The first home game will be November 2nd against William Woods. The Tigers will have 12 home games this season with the last one being on February 14th.
