New Exhibit At The Library

In a first for Mount Pleasant Arts IMPACT, the new art exhibit in the public library showcases the work of student artists.

Twenty-seven artists, all studying under the guidance of local art professional Annie Guldberg, are ages six through adult. The students worked individually in one-on-one lessons over the summer with Annie in her Mount Pleasant studio.

As part of the learning process, each student was challenged to create a piece that included both an element of drawing and an element of painting. Part of the challenge assignment suggested students create a self-portrait in any style or a drawing of one or more of the students’ personal interests. The finished product was to include a painted portion on 11” x 14” canvas. These are the works shown in the Mount Pleasant public library gallery display.

The current exhibit in the Mount Pleasant Public Library includes 27 examples from the student work produced. A fascinating part of the exhibit is seeing how each individual artist worked through the project in his or her individual way.

Annie Guldberg’s main teaching philosophy is to encourage all her students to love the process of creation. She believes that art, like any skill, can be learned with the right tools and practice. Given a relaxing, encouraging, and creative environment, Annie believes students of any age can be inspired to create.

Annie is a professional artist who lives in Mount Pleasant. She teaches private one-on-one art lessons in her studio as well as creating work for sale in galleries around the midwest. She is also known for her commissioned artwork in oils. Her website is www. OilPainterAnnie.com for those wishing to see her work.

The Mount Pleasant Arts IMPACT art gallery is supported by the Enhance Henry County Foundation.

Access Energy Cooperative Members Celebrate in the Heat

Members were welcomed back to the Access Energy Cooperative annual meeting of members, after two years of the event being held on-line. “Our mission is to serve. Our priority is you” is the message they received on August 2nd at McMillan Park in Mt. Pleasant.

Kristi Perry from the Mt. Pleasant Chamber Alliance started the meeting with a warm welcome to the members. President Marvin Newton chaired the business meeting.

“The important point to remember is that as a not-for-profit co-op, Access Energy Cooperative is not interested in selling you something you don’t need. We are not about maximizing sales; we’re about maximizing member satisfaction. Our mission is to serve. Our priority is you.” reported Kevin Wheeler, General Manager/CEO.

Highlights of the event included an outstanding performance by “The Boys” and a great meal served by Mount Pleasant Hy-Vee. Homemade Ice Cream from Hinterland Dairy of Donnellson was served. Members enjoyed drive-a-tractor by the Proennecke brothers and Dick McGohan, inflatable activities for the kids from Fields of Fun, pony rides by Windy Acres, a live line demonstration on being safe around electricity, information from the Henry County Health Center, and the Henry County Sheriff. Access Energy Cooperative appreciates their participating and everyone else who helped make the event a success for the members, including Quality Equipment, the Mt. Pleasant VFW, FFA, Staats, the Midwest Old Threshers, the city of Mt Pleasant, Lance Refuse, and Printgroup.

Following reports of the cooperative officers, election results were reported as Fred Hickenbottom, Robert Smith, and Marvin Newton were re-elected as directors to serve three-year terms on the nine-person board.

The Grand Prize of a $250 bill credit was drawn for. The member was not present, so the $250 will be added to next year’s drawing for a grand prize of $500. Dividend checks for 2022 totaling $1,224,133 were available for members to pick up at the meeting. For those who were unable to make it to the meeting, checks will be mailed out in the next few weeks.

Following the meeting, the board of directors met at their annual reorganizational meeting. Wapello Man Sentenced to Six Months in Federal Prison For Failing to File Income Tax Returns

DES MOINES, IA – Bradley Earl Ewart, age 51, of Wapello, was sentenced Monday,
August 1, 2022, to 6 months in prison for failing to file income tax returns. Ewart pleaded guilty
on March 24, 2022, to two counts of failure to file income tax returns, one for each of the calendar
years 2016 and 2018. The Court imposed a three-month prison sentence on each count, to be
served consecutively. Following completion of his prison term, Ewart will be on supervised
release for one year. The Court imposed a $20,000 fine.
Since approximately 2004, Ewart has owned and operated Louisa County Millwright,
LLC, a business that specializes in grain elevator work, material handling, steel building
installation, and fabrication. Ewart failed to file federal income tax returns for the years 2004 to
2014. As part of his plea, Ewart admitted that he knowingly and willfully failed to file tax returns
for the years 2015, 2016, 2017, and 2018. Ewart remains responsible for paying his tax liability
in full.
“Mr. Ewart admitted that he repeatedly failed to file his federal income tax returns the
majority of the time his business was in operation,” said Tyler Hatcher, Special Agent in Charge
for the Internal Revenue Service (IRS) – Criminal Investigations. “Earning prison time and a
$20,000 fine for this offense sends a clear message that we all have the responsibility to file
accurate returns on time and pay our fair share of taxes.”
United States Attorney Richard D. Westphal of the Southern District of Iowa made the
announcement. IRS Criminal Investigations investigated the case. The case was prosecuted by
Assistant United States Attorney Adam J. Kerndt
