Michael R. Martin, 74, of Mt. Pleasant, formerly of New London, died Monday, May 23 2022, at University of Iowa Hospitals, Iowa City. Arrangements are pending at Elliott Chapel, New London.

Carolyn Lois Brinkman, 88, of Mt. Pleasant, formerly of Danville, went to be with her Lord on May 20, 2022.  She was born on September 19, 1933 in Bonaparte, Iowa to Ivan Hugh and Esther Gonterman Murphy. She is survived by her husband and best friend of 69 years, Charles and was preceded in death by her sister, Aline Mae Bacon.  Lois graduated from Bonaparte High School in 1951 and Gem City Business College in Quincy, IL where she met her future husband, Charles Albert Brinkman of Kinderhook, IL.  They were married November 27, 1952, exactly one year from their first date.

Four sons were born to this union: Douglas Lee of Ames; Matthew Duane (Patti) of Hoffman Estates; Darcy Lynn of Mt. Pleasant; and Ivan Charles (Debra) of Cedar Rapids.  More blessings came in the form of nine grandchildren: Karissa (Don) Foster; January (Luke) Benjamin; Brandon (Brynn) Brinkman; Brittney (Travis) Mensen; Rachel (Andrew) Quam; Jacqueline Brinkman, Alaina Brinkman and Chaley and Tumebo Brinkman and eight great grandchildren; Drew and Klay Foster; Kade and Carter Benjamin; Kasin, Harper and Ian Mensen; Brexton Brinkman and several special nephews and nieces.

Lois worked as a secretary at the IAAP for several years then stayed home to raise her sons doing part-time office jobs from home as well as babysitting.  In the 70’s, as site manager, she began “Meals for 60 plus in Danville”, worked as office manager for a plumbing and heating shop and later at the DMC Extension Office.  She also served as secretary for Grace UMC before retiring so she could travel with her husband.  She and her husband hosted a German foreign exchange college student for a year and have also sponsored a Bolivian child named Eva since she was 5 years old.

She taught Sunday School, Good News Club, sang in the choir, was secretary for the Home Bible group, wrote for the church newsletter, as well as wrote news and a humor column “The Way I See It” for the DMC News and the New London Journal.  She also did the Home Town news on KILJ Radio station of Mt. Pleasant for 14 years. She had two books published; Turn of the Century and Indiana Prairie Skirts – co-written with Bev Faaborg.

A 28-year cancer survivor, she was an ACS Reach to Recovery Volunteer; had a Relay for Life team for 16 years; helped with their educational programs and did public speaking.  She was on the “FACES OF HOPE” poster which traveled throughout the state offering hope to others.  In 1999 she was the Courage Award winner; in 2001 she was given the Teresa Lasser Award; and in 2002 was the recipient of the Harold W. Morgan Award from ACS.  She also worked with the Lion’s Club “Kid’s Sight” program helping save young children’s eye sight.

She enjoyed reading, baking, flowers, camping, swimming, traveling, playing cards, doing crafts and tea parties with her grandchildren and greatly loved all of her family.  She loved the Lord and especially loved reading her Bible.

A Celebration of Lois’s life will be held at Elliott Chapel in New London, IA, Thursday, May 26, 2022 at 11:00 AM with Mr. John Tolander and Dr. Dan McClure officiating. The family will greet friends beginning at 9:30 until the time of the service.  According to her wishes her body has been cremated and inurnment will be in Bonaparte Cemetery, Bonaparte, IA at a later date.  Memorials have been established for Child Evangelism Fellowship (CEF) of Southeast Iowa; American Cancer Society; and the Danville Library.  Online condolences may be left at www.elliottfuneralchapel.com.

Roger G. “Wolf” Hast, 75 of rural Mt. Pleasant passed away March 4, 2022.  Cremation was entrusted to the care of Murphy Funeral Home of Mt. Pleasant. A graveside memorial service will be held June 4 at Grant Cemetery near Rome, Iowa at 10 am. Murphy Funeral Home of Mt. Pleasant has been caring for the arrangements for Roger“Wolf” Hast.

Anna Mae Korschgen, 100, of West Point, Iowa, cared for by her loving family as she declined, passed away peacefully at 10:23pm in her home on May 21, 2022.

Born premature at home, in Winchester, Mo. on February 16, 1922 she weighed only 2 ½ lbs., kept in a box on the woodburning stove for warmth, she survived through the night and for a century celebrated her birthday on February 17^th. She was the oldest child of Lawrence and Laura Miller Boltz.

Anna Mae married Robert O. Korschgen of St. Patrick, Mo. on February 19, 1944 at the Shrine of St. Patrick Church.

She was a housewife and worked at W.A. Sheaffer Pen Company for 13 years. She was a member of St. Mary of the Assumption Catholic Church in West Point and the Daughters of Isabella for over 50 years. She was the Garden Club secretary for 2 years and a member of Senior Citizens. Most recently, she became a member of the National Society of the Daughters of the American Revolution.

She enjoyed her grandchildren, great grandchildren and great-great grandchildren, sewing, hosting family holiday meals, playing bingo, scratching lottery tickets, and going to the casino. Affectionately known as Grandpa and Grandma “K”, Robert and Anna Mae enjoyed making quilts together and she crocheted many afghans, all of which became presents for family milestones.

She is survived by her 4 children.  Kitty Anderson of Burlington, Iowa, Roberta (James) Warner of Libertyville, Iowa, Paula (Stan) Mickelson of Burlington, Iowa, and Charles (Theresa) Korschgen of West Point. Also surviving are 14 grandchildren, 26 great grandchildren, 10 great-great grandchildren; one brother Fred Boltz and one sister Joy Rule both of Keokuk, Iowa and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Robert in 1998, her brother Roscoe and his wife Betty, a sister-in-law Janell, a brother-in-law Paul Rule Sr., a son-in-law Loren Anderson and 2 grandsons.

Visitation will be held Tuesday from 12:00 noon to 6:00 p.m. at the Funeral Home in West Point.

Mass of Christian Burial will be held 11:00 a.m. Wednesday at Saint Mary of the Assumption Catholic Church in West Point with Father Dennis Hoffman as celebrant.

Burial will be at Calvary cemetery in West Point

In lieu of flowers memorial may be made to Saint Mary’s Catholic Church or Calvary Cemetery.

Karen Marshall, 65, of Farmington, Iowa, passed away at 9:45 p.m. Friday, May 20, 2022, at her home.

Born on October 31, 1956, in Keokuk, Iowa, the daughter of Robert and Naomi (Smith) Vance. On May 25, 1996, she married Jerry Marshall in Farmington, Iowa. He preceded her in death on February 15, 2016.

Survivors include her sons: Adam (Kim) Forquer of Mount Pleasant, Iowa, Jeremy (Hayley) Marshall of Donnellson, Iowa, Eugene (Anna) Jones of Keokuk, Iowa; grandchildren: Gracie, Lucas, Beau and one on the way. Also surviving are two brothers: Robert (Julie) Vance of Farmington, Iowa, Bill (Linda) Vance of Bonaparte, Iowa and several nieces and nephews

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband Jerry; and sister Amy Jones.

Karen retired from Senior Meals in Keosauqua as the site administrator. She enjoyed fishing, cooking, sewing, flowers, mushroom hunting and watching Jeremy race go-karts. She was a very sociable person and loved spending time with family and friends.

Her body has been entrusted to the crematory of Schmitz Funeral Home for cremation.

The family will receive friends from 12:00 noon to 1:30 p.m. on Saturday, May 28, 2022, at Farmington United Methodist Church.

A memorial service will be held at 1:30 p.m. Saturday, May 28, 2022, at Farmington United Methodist Church with Pastor Dawn Butler officiating.

Burial will be held at Greenglade Cemetery.

A memorial has been established in her memory.
