New London — New London rallied for three runs in the bottom of the 7th as the Tigers came from behind for a walkoff 4-3 win over Sigourney in Saturday night’s District 9 championship.
Sigourney did not record an out in the 7th as New London loaded the bases with nobody out and never looked back. Carter Allen got the inning started with a base hit, Camden Kasel walked then Ryan Richey followed up a with a bunt single.
Brendan Richey grounded to shortstop in the next at bat, but Josh Mohr’s throw to home was late to get Allen.
Seth Bailey was hit just a few pitches later, which tied the game at 3.
The next hitter, Joshua Catala, squibbed a groundball to shortstop and again Mohr struggled fielding it cleanly which allowed the winning run to score.
Cade Streigle was the losing pitcher for Sigourney, who was otherwise outstanding working six innings, allowing for hits and two walks while striking out nine.
Kooper Schulte earned the win for New London, pitching a perfect inning of relief in the 7th.
The win improved New London to 25-1, they’ll now square off with Mount Ayr, who took down Martensdale-St. Mary’s.
That game will be played Tuesday in Oskaloosa.
The winner will advance to the 1A State Tournament, this year being played in Carroll.
Tuesday’s game will begin at 7:00 p.m. and you can listen on FM 105.5 and kilj.com.
