No. 15 (1A) Winfield-Mount Union 10, New London 0

Madie Anderson allowed just one hit and struck out 15 hitters as the Winfield-Mount Union softball team, Class 1A’s 15th ranked program, ousted New London yesterday in a Class 1A, Region 8 second round matchup.

The Lady Wolves scored in every inning but one, using a four run 4th inning to break the game open.

Kayreana Sharar had three hits while Carlee Sloan and Anna Anderson each had pair of hits.

Madie Anderson drove in three.

The lone hit for New London came by Ashlyn McSorely in the 1st inning.

Elly Manning was the losing pitcher for the Tigers, who end their season 7-23.

Winfield-Mount Union, now 17-5, advance to play in Friday’s semifinal against Highland.

That game will be played in Winfield, with first pitch set for 7:00 p.m.

Cardinal 4, No. 11 (2A) Wapello 3

In an upset not many saw coming, unranked Cardinal took down Class 2A’s No. 11 Wapello 4-3 yesterday in a Class 2A Regional Quarterfinal in Wapello.

Sammy Ewart had three hits in three trips to lead the Arrows offensively, but it was not enough as Cardinal scrapped for the one run triumph.

Serah Shafer went 2-for-4 with a double and a triple.

Cardinal, now 16-13, will await the winner of Van Buren County-Danville.

Wapello, a state qualifier two years ago, ends their 2021 campaign at 18-8.

No. 3 (2A) Louisa-Muscatine 2, West Branch 1

Kylee Sanders punched through with a two-out RBI double in the 9th inning to help No. 3 Louisa-Muscatine walk off West Branch 2-1 in a Class 2A Regional Quarterfinal last night.

Sanders, the UNI recruit, was electric once again at the plate and in the circle, earning the win.

Louisa-Muscatine, now 19-8 after the first round scare, will host No. 14 Iowa City Regina Friday night.

First pitch is set for 7:00 p.m.

West Branch closed their season at 16-16.
