Samuel A. Ruth

Samuel A. Ruth, 76, of Mount Pleasant, passed away Thursday, June 11, 2026, at the Klein Center in West Burlington.
Sam was born October 4, 1949, in Ottumwa, Iowa, the son of William W. and Edna (Logan) Ruth. Sam graduated from Mount Pleasant High School in 1967. Following graduation, he enlisted in the United States Navy, where he proudly served his country for nearly four years during the Cold War. He was honorably discharged in 1972, and his military service remained a source of great pride throughout his life.

Sam worked for General Electric, John Deere, Heatilator, Barker’s, and The Hassenfritz Company during his career. Outside of work, he had a deep passion for air-cooled gas engines and enjoyed displaying them for many years at Midwest Old Threshers. He appreciated the history, craftsmanship, and mechanics behind the engines and took great pride in sharing that interest with others.

Sam was also an avid motorcycle rider and could often be seen around Mount Pleasant on his bike. He especially enjoyed his rides with the Combat Veterans Motorcycle Association.

Sam is survived by his brother, Fred (Suzanne) Ruth of Walnut Grove, Missouri; his daughter, Amy (David) Ruth Spotts of Fremont, Michigan; and his nephew, Jeff (Charlyce) Ruth of Rogersville, Missouri. He was preceded in death by his parents, William W. and Edna Ruth.

A graveside service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Friday June 19, 2026, in the Forest Home Cemetery. Pastor Steve English will officiate. Military Rites will be conducted by the Henry County Honor Guard. The Olson-Yoder Funeral Home is caring for Sam and his family. www.olsonyoderfh.com
