The Enhance Henry County Community Foundation has been notified it will soon be receiving a $145,443 state award to advance community-based philanthropy throughout Henry County. The award comes by way of the County Endowment Fund which was established during the 2004 Legislative Session. Under terms of the legislation the Enhance Henry County Community Foundation will direct 75 percent of the award to foundation grantmaking activities and 25 percent will be placed in the Foundation’s permanent endowment. The prestigious American Diabetes Association Education Recognition Certificate for a quality diabetes self-management education and support service was recently awarded to the Henry County Health Center Diabetes Education Program. A.D.A. believes that this service offers high-quality education that is an essential component of effective diabetes treatment. The Association’s Education Recognition Certificate assures that educational services meet the National Standards for Diabetes Self-Management Education and Support. Services that achieve Recognition status have a staff of knowledgeable health professionals who can provide participants with comprehensive information about diabetes management.

Winfield-Mt. Union preschool through 12th graders will be walking on Wednesday, October 6th anytime from 9:30 am to 1:30 pm as part of the ‘Iowa’s Healthiest State Initiative’. The students are doing lessons on empathy and “walking in someone else’s shoes” and decided to incorporate these social-emotion-behavioral lessons into the walk. The City of Winfield will be partially blocking off the corners of West Central and South Clark Street and S. Clark and West Pine Street. This is to allow staff and students a safe walk along South Clark.

ISU Extension and Outreach in Henry County is hosting a Farm Transition/Estate Planning Meeting on Tuesday, November 9 from 6:00 pm – 8:30pm at the Henry County Extension Office in Mt. Pleasant. This meeting is an introduction to farm estate planning, an exercise to get things started. Charles Brown, ISU Extension and Outreach Farm Management Specialist, and Kitt Tovar Jensen, ISU Center for Agricultural Law & Taxation Legal Consultant, will discuss the top estate planning mistakes and the information your attorney or team will need to start preparing your estate plan.
