Southeast Iowa Fire Departments Battle Field Fires on Friday, 2/27/26

Washington County Dispatch reported that area fire departments responded to several brush/grass/or field fires yesterday.  At 11:36 am, units responded to 1365 Highway 22 in Wellman to extinguish a fire, a grass fire was reportedly out of control at 12:19pm in Washington that the Wellman FD took care of.  On Friday afternoon Ainsworth Fire Department, Washington Fire, Riverside and Crawfordsville fire departments responded to a corn field fire at 2376 Vine Avenue in Ainsworth.  The fire was extinguished and there was no damage to nearby structures.

The Mt. Pleasant Fire Department along with surrounding fire departments from Winfield, Mt. Union, and Olds battled a large out of control field fire East of Highway 218 and north of Mt. Pleasant on Friday afternoon.  The fire spread between 170th and 180th streets and along Kentucky avenue.  Henry County Sheriff’s Deputies provided traffic control in the area as fire personnel fought the fire for hours starting at about 3pm.  Extremely dry conditions, low humidity, warm temperatures and gusting winds worked against the fire fighters yesterday.
