Prep Basketball: Mount Pleasant Locks Up with Regina; Other Prep Matchups

The Mount Pleasant boys’ basketball team will get a nonconference matchup against Iowa City Regina tonight, — their third meeting in three years.

The Panthers, winners of two straight, come into the matchup 7-9 on a climb towards .500.

Payton Hagans enters the scrap fresh off a career high 25 points in a Saturday win over Mediapolis. The sophomore is averaging 10.7 points and three rebounds per game for the Panthers.

Still however, the Mount Pleasant offense funnels through senior forward Dewon Trent.

Trent is scoring 14.6 points to tag along with eight rebounds per game as he continues to develop his game on both ends.

Owen Vansickel is third on the team at 9.3 points and is the top assist-man on the squad.

On the other hand, it’s been uncharacteristically down season for the Runnin’ Regals.

Regina is just 5-13 on the seasons, but are winners for two straight of North Cedar and Durant.

Regina is paced by senior Coltrae Kerschen and his 11.1 points per game.

Carter Lock is second on the team at 8.6 points per game.

Tonight’s game will tip at 7:30 p.m.

You can listen on FM 105.5 and kilj.com.
