Girls’ Cross Country: Panthers Finish 6th at Fairfield Invite:

The Mount Pleasant girls’ cross country team finished 6th out of twelve teams yesterday at the Fairfield Invitational.

Abby Blint led the way for Mount Pleasant with a second place finish, running 21:04.

Alexis Wagner, who just raced her second varsity race, went 22:27 good for 14th place overall. That time would have been good for 4th place in the Southeast Conference.

Belle Meador finished third on the team and improved her time from last Saturday’s Pella Invite by twenty seconds.

The Panthers will be off for the weekend before traveling to Fort Madison next week.

Haidyn Barker of Clear Creek Amana was the meet medalist, surging the Clippers to a team championship.

Danville-New London finished ninth.

Boys’ Cross Country: Danville-New London Rolls, Mount Pleasant 5th at Fairfield Invite:

Ty Carr and Rylan Martin paced Danville-New London with third and fourth place finishes, helping guide the Bears to a team championship at the Fairfield Invitational last night.

Mount Pleasant finished fifth as a team.

Carr went 16:46 even, while Martin finished in 17:15.70.

Alexander Julian was the sixth place runner — Seth Bailey went 17:36.60 for eighth.

Mount Pleasant was led by Ben Carthey, who placed 15th.

Carthey surged to a 18:11.60.

Gabe Feldmann was the second place runner for the Panthers, taking 33rd overall in 19:16.60.

Winfield-Mount Union ended 11th, while WACO finished 12th in the team standings.

Prep Volleyball: Notre Dame, Wapello Both Win Easy:

No. 1 Notre Dame 3, Danville 0 

The top-ranked Notre Dame Nikes, continued their dominance in southeast Iowa, rolling to a 25-17, 25-11, 25-7 win over Danville yesterday.

Gabby Deery was terrific in the front row again with 15 kills, while Josie Bentz added 11.

Jenna Bentz had 23 assists.

The defending state champion Nikes improved to 15-4, Danville slipped to 2-5.

Wapello 3, Columbus 0 

Wapello started with a 25-5 winner and never looked back as the Arrows swept Columbus yesterday in Super Conference North Division play.

Wapello won the second set 25-16, while claiming a 25-15 win in the third to finish off the sweep.

The Arrows upped their ledger to 12-7, while Columbus dropped to 2-11.

Victoria Howell led Columbus with six kills.

Prep Football: Mount Pleasant Hosts Keokuk, New London Takes on Winfield:

The Mount Pleasant football team is back on their home turf this tonight when they take on the Chiefs from Keokuk.

Both teams enter play tonight at 0-2, seeking their first win of the season.

Mount Pleasant is fresh off a 22-0 loss last week at Washington, while Keokuk was defeated handedly by an upstart Burlington team that is 2-0 for the first time since 1959.

Keokuk is led on the ground by Equilius Lee, who has rushed for 129 yards already on the young year.

The Chiefs have rotated three quarterbacks on the year.

Mount Pleasant, who have won three straight against Keokuk, are still searching for their offensive identity though two games.

Sophomore running back Payton Hagans has amassed 83 yards on the season on just 12 carries, a healthy seven yards per touch.

He will need to be just as efficient for the Panthers tonight on their home turf.

Tonight’s game will kick at 7:30 p.m., you can listen on FM 105.5 beginning at 7:00 p.m. with the Panther Tailgate Show.

In other area action, all eyes are in New London tonight when the Tigers welcome in the high flying Winfield-Mount Union Wolves.

Led by Iowa recruit Cam Buffington, the Wolves have morphed into an offensive juggernaut with Buffington accounting for 18 scores through just two games, tops in the state.

New London was off last week after Tri-County forfeited their season.

Tonight’s game in New London will kick at 7:00 p.m.

No. 8 WACO will get a ranked matchup with No. 9 English Valleys tonight at home.

The Warriors are 3-0 under Chad Edeker this year and will get their biggest test of the season to this point. Simeon Reichenbach, WACO’s star runner, is coming off a two touchdown game against H-L-V.

College Football: Wesleyan on the Road, A-R-C Matchups:

The Iowa Wesleyan football team is on the road this weekend at Quincy University, as the Tigers seek their first win of the year.

Wesleyan was beaten at home last weekend 31-7, by the Spartans of Missouri Baptist.

Kickoff is set for 1:00 p.m.
