Prep Wrestling: Panthers Travel to Fairfield; Other Area Scraps:

The Mount Pleasant wrestling team will be back on the mat tonight when they travel to Fairfield for a Southeast Conference dual.

The Panthers are looking to get back in the win column as we head towards postseason wrestling time.

Tonight’s dual will begin at Fairfield High School at 6:30 p.m.

JV will also wrestle tonight, as well.

Other scraps in the Southeast Conference:

  • Burlington at Washington
  • Fort Madison at Keokuk

Prep Wrestling: New London, Notre Dame Host Home Triangulars:

The New London and Notre Dame wrestling teams are hosting triangulars, headline what should be a great night of Super Conference wrestling.

New London, who has had one of the most difficult schedules in the state this season, will welcome in Highland and WACO.

Notre Dame, the No. 2 ranked team in Class 2A, will host Cardinal and Pekin.

Both of those bouts will begin at 6:00 p.m. tonight.

Columbus Community/Winfield-Mount Union will also host a home triangular this evening.

The Wildcats will bring in Quinten Aney and the Mediapolis Bulldogs, as well as Van Buren County.

They too will begin at 6:00 p.m.

College Basketball: Iowa, UNI and Drake All Beaten:

Rutgers 48, Iowa 46 

Iowa’s Keegan Murray had a chance to win it at the horn, but his three point attempt missed as Iowa lost a 48-46 slog to Rutgers last night in Piscataway.

Murray led the Hawkeyes with 13 points and 13 boards.

Patrick McCaffery had 11 points for the Hawkeyes, as well.

Iowa is now 13-5 and 3-4 in Big Ten play.

Valpo 83, UNI 80 (F/OT)

UNI saw their five-game winning streak come to a close last night with an 83-80 defeat by Valparaiso in overtime.

Noah Carter paced the Panthers with 33 points, 10 rebounds and five dimes.

Bowen Born had 11 for UNI.

UNI is now 9-8 and 5-2 in Missouri Valley action.

Bradley 83, Drake 71

Drake dropped just their second league game in an 83-71 loss to Bradley last night.

Tucker DeVries finished with 17 points for the Bulldogs while Garrett Sturtz added 15.

Roman Penn had 14 points and three assists .

Drake fell to 13-6 overall and 4-2 in the conference.

College Baseball: Texas Preseason No. 1:

In College Baseball, Texas checks in as the preseason No. 1 team in the country in the latest D1Baseball.com poll.

The Longhorns finished last year 50-17.

Arkansas, Vanderbilt, Mississippi State and Ole Miss round out the top-five.

Iowa is unranked.

The Hawkeyes open the season next month at the Swig and Swine Classic in Charleston, South Carolina.

They’ll get matchups there with Air Force, Ball State and Bucknell.
