Prep Wrestling: Mount Pleasant, Others Back in Action:

The Mount Pleasant wrestling team will look to get back into the win column tonight when they travel to take on Burlington in a Southeast Conference dual.

The Panthers are coming off a sixth-place finish at the six-team Raider Invite in Williamsburg.

Carson Coleman has been their most consistent wrestler this year — the senior showed out well in Williamsburg claiming a runner-up finish at 126.

Tonight’s dual will begin at 6:30 p.m. at Burlington High School.

Other scraps in the Southeast Conference tonight will see:

  • Fort Madison and Kirksville at Centerville
  • Keokuk, Oskaloosa and Washington at Williamsburg

Prep Wrestling: Super Conference Has Loaded Thursday: 

We are just one weekend away from postseason wrestling so the Super Conference sees action intensify tonight.

All eyes are in Wayland tonight for a loaded quadrangular. WACO will play host to Lone Tree, Quinten Aney and Mediapolis and the third-ranked (2A) Notre Dame Nikes.

They’ll begin at Wayland tonight at 6:00 p.m.

Meanwhile, New London will host their own quadrangular.

New London will host Pekin, Van Buren County and Wapello — a tournament in which the Tigers should find their stripes.

They are coming off a great, 4-1 weekend at the Steinkamp Duals hosted by East Buchanan.

Top-ranked Lane Scorpil and the rest of the Wildcats from Columbus Community/Winfield-Mount Union will be in Riverside tonight at Highland.

Cardinal and Louisa-Muscatine will also trek to the Huskie Dome.

They’ll get started there at 6:00 p.m.

College Basketball: Iowa State Holds on For Thrilling OT Win

Izaiah Brockington scored 26 points, including Iowa State’s final two baskets in overtime, to lead the No. 23 Cyclones (15-5, 3-5 Big 12) to a thrilling 84-81 win over Oklahoma State (10-9, 3-5 Big 12) Wednesday night in Stillwater.

The win ended the Cyclones 24-game Big 12 road losing streak.

Brockington, who also made the deciding basket to force overtime, received help from Tyrese Hunter and Caleb Grill.

Hunter, who had five key points in the extra session, netted 18 points while Grill poured in 15 points on 5-of-7 shooting from downtown.

Iowa State is now 15-5 on the year, they’ll host Missouri on Saturday.

Tip is set for 1:00 p.m.

College Football: Drake Announces 2022 Schedule

The Drake University football team released its 2022 schedule, head coach Todd Stepsis announced on Wednesday.

The slate features 11 games including eight against Pioneer Football League opponents.

The Bulldogs begin the 2022 season with a test at Missouri Valley Football Conference powerhouse North Dakota State on Saturday (Sept. 3). The Bison are coming off their ninth FCS national championship.

Drake welcomes Missouri S&T in the home opener at Drake Stadium on Sept. 10 before hitting the road to face Idaho of the Big Sky conference on Sept. 17.

Conference action will begin on September 24th.
