High School Softball

Mt. Pleasant snapped an 18-game losing streak against Washington last night, as Millie Wellington clapped a bases clearing three-RBI triple to give the Panthers a late lead that they never surrendered in a 7-3 final. Abigail Shelangoski also went 3 for 4 with an RBI, while Chaley Cook and Jolynn Martin combined for the win in the circle. Panther head coach Curtis Bjork was happy to see his team bounce back,

“Yeah, credit to the girls. We had a tough loss last night. We’ve been close in some games. And we’ve talked a lot about defense playing one pitch at a time and the defense really stepped up tonight. The offense battled one to nine, which makes us dangerous, makes any team dangerous if you can be tough one to nine. And then two girls in the circle competed for us all night.

Reagan Miller clouted a solo home run for the Demons in the loss.

Mt. Pleasant will compete in the Holy Trinity Catholic Classic tomorrow, June 6th.

Holy Trinity Catholic defeated New London last night, 7-3. The Tigers will travel to Danville tonight at 7 pm. 

Danville was unable to rally past West Burlington/Notre Dame, losing 11-8. Lacie Felkins raced for a triple and three RBIs in the win. 

Central Lee will face off against West Burlington/Notre Dame tonight at 7 pm at home. 

Columbus dropped their contest with Hillcrest Academy last night, 14-1. The Wildcats will host Louisa-Muscatine at 7 pm on Thursday, June 11th. 

WACO fell to Keota last night, 15-0. The Warriors will welcome Louisa-Muscatine tonight at 7 pm.

Wapello was shutout by Louisa-Muscatine last night, 13-0. The Arrows will take on Pekin at 5 pm tonight. 

It took extra innings but Fairfield remained unbeaten in conference play after taking down Fort Madison last night, 4-3 in nine innings. Leah Helmick swatted a home run for two RBIs in the victory. The Trojans will join Washington at the Iowa City West Softball Classic today. 

Van Buren County clobbered Pekin last night, 15-2. The Warriors will tangle with Holy Trinity Catholic tonight at 7 pm. 

Mediapolis will square off against Hillcrest Academy tonight at home at 7 pm. 

High School Baseball

Burlington Notre Dame demolished New London last night, 19-3. The Nikes will travel to Van Buren County tonight at 7 pm.

New London will square off against Danville on the road tonight at 6 pm. 

Van Buren County lost 11-1 to Pekin last night.

Mt. Pleasant’s six-run sixth inning buried Washington last night, 8-3. Ryan Helling, Tayten George, Adam Denning, and Ethan Peck each collected two RBIs in the victory. The Panthers will host Keokuk on Monday, June 8th, for a doubleheader with game one at 5:30 pm. 

Washington will take on Fairfield at home on Monday with game one of the doubleheader at 5:30 pm.

Central Lee fell to Mediapolis last night, 9-5. Mason Sanders led the Hawks with three RBIs. The Bulldogs will look to continue the momentum into tonight’s home contest against Hillcrest Academy at 7 pm. 

Central Lee will host West Burlington tonight at 7 pm. 

Wapello was unable to topple Louisa-Muscatine last night in a 7-5 final. Grayson Nagle tallied three RBIs in the loss. Wapello will head back home tonight for a contest against Pekin at 7 pm. 

Fairfield handled Fort Madison last night, 7-2. Dain Burkhart pitched six innings of six-hit ball, striking out one, while adding an RBI at the plate. The Trojans will face off against Mid-Prairie tonight at 7:30 pm at home. 

Winfield-Mt. Union will take on Highland tonight at 5 pm on the road. 

High School Postseason Soccer

For Class 2A Region 4, the Fort Madison girls’ team lost 7-0 to North Scott last night for the Regional Championship. The Bloodhounds finished the season with a 14-3-1 record. 

The 2026 boys’ state tournament was thrown off schedule by the weather last night, causing the Class 2A semifinal matchup between #2 Unity Christian and #3 Des Moines Christian to be played this morning at 9:30 am. The Class 2A championship will now be played tomorrow, June 6th, at 10 am. 

In Class 1A action, Regina Catholic defeated West Central Valley on penalty kicks yesterday and St. Albert rallied back from a 2 to 0 halftime deficit to win 3-2. The Class 1A championship is scheduled for tonight at 5 pm. 

Local Summer Athletic Camps

Mt. Pleasant girls’ basketball is offering up a camp for any girls’ basketball players entering 3rd through 12th grades from June 23rd through the 25th located at the Mt. Pleasant High School Gym. The camp will focus on the fundamentals and introduce team concepts employed by the high school’s system.

Southeastern Community College

The Southeastern Blackhawks Youth MVP Baseball Camp has opened up for registration. The camp is open for youths ages 7 to 12, running June 15th through the 17th from 9 am to noon. The camp will take place at Wagner Athletic Complex on the West Burlington Campus and will cost $150 for the full three day camp. Prospect League

The Burlington Bees fell to the Quincy Doggy Paddlers last night, 13-2. The Bees will be back at home tonight against the O’Fallon Hoots with first pitch at 6:30 pm. 

The Clinton LumberKings defeated the Illinois Valley Pistol Shrimp last night, 8-1. The LumberKings will tangle with the Doggy Paddlers tonight at home at 6:30 pm.
