High School Tennis

Mt. Pleasant’s #4-seed Jana Isanta entered the girls’ Class 1A state singles tournament semifinals having the face off against Gabriella Fleming of Xavier, the top seed of the tournament. Unfortunately, Isanta was swept in both sets to send her to the third-place match against Pella’s Emily Blom.

The Panther was unable to take down the Dutch as Isanta fell 6-3 in both sets to claim 4th place overall. Isanta ended the season with a 20-2 record, only losing five sets this year in singles competition. 

High School Baseball

Central Lee will take on Burlington Notre Dame on Thursday, May 30th, at 5:30 pm at home. 

Winfield-Mt. Union will take on Burlington Notre Dame on Wednesday, May 29th, at 5:30 pm at home. 

Mt. Pleasant will host Washington tomorrow, May 28th, in a doubleheader with game one at 5:30 pm. 

New London will compete against Mediapolis tomorrow at 5:30 pm on the road.  

Burlington Notre Dame will face off against Van Buren County tomorrow at 5:30 pm at home. 

West Burlington will travel to Wapello on Wednesday for first pitch at 5:30 pm. 

High School Baseball Rankings

The Iowa High School Baseball Coaches Association updated their rankings and Burlington Notre Dame has ventured to the top spot on the list in Class 1A with a 3-0 start to the season. The Nikes have been stellar on offense, averaging 10 runs per game with Dylan Kipp bringing the power, swatting two home runs while batting 0.600 on the season. Jaxon Sadler has been the ace for this club with a 0.70 ERA through two starts. 

Hillcrest Academy is also receiving votes as the Ravens are 1-0 to start the season. The young team will look for Seth Ours to step back into his ace role as the junior tabbed a 0.67 ERA last season. The two are set to meet at Burlington Notre Dame on June 17th. 

High School Softball

Winfield-Mt. Union will face off against Pekin tomorrow, May 28th, at home at 5:30 pm. 

Mt. Pleasant will host Washington tomorrow for a doubleheader to start conference play with first pitch at 5:30 pm. 

Van Buren County will stay on the road to start the season to face off against Pekin on Wednesday, May 29th, at 7 pm. 

Mediapolis will compete against New London tomorrow at home at 7:30 pm. 

Central Lee participated in a tournament at Indian Hills Community College over the weekend  and lost to Carlisle 12-4. The Hawks will look to get back in the win column tomorrow on the road against West Burlington at 7 pm.

Holy Trinity Catholic will host Danville at 5:30 pm tomorrow.

High School Soccer

The girls’ state tournament will begin tomorrow, May 28th, and the boys’ state tournament will start on Wednesday, May 29th. 

The Iowa High School Athletic Association will provide free video streams of the quarterfinal rounds. The semifinals and finals rights are held by the Iowa High School Sports Network and they will charge streaming viewers for the games. 

Southeastern Community College

SCC baseball not only had to fend off #10 South Arkansas Community College but the weather in their first round matchup of the NJCAA Division II tournament, and ultimately fell to the Stars 4-3. Cole Smith, Abrahan Rios, and Caleb Klein each picked up an RBI in the loss. 

The Blackhawks will now look to navigate through the consolation bracket as they will take on the loser between East Central and Madison tomorrow at 10 am.
