Prep Volleyball: IGCA Announces All-District Volleyball Teams:
The Iowa Girls’ Coaches Association has released their 2021 All-District volleyball teams and several area players have been recognized.
Starting with the two-time state champs, Notre Dame was represented by Gabby Deery and Jenna and Josie Bentz on the 1A Southeast All-District team.
Class 1A semifinalist Holy Trinity had three honorees on the All-District team, headlined by terrific seniors Anna Sobczak and Kassi Randolph.
Natalie Randolph, who was a 1A All-State Tournament team member, was also a 1A Southeast All-District team choice.
New London also had three selections.
Senior Aliyah Christensen and juniors Natalie Burden and Emma Nye were honored.
WACO was headlined by Grace Coble and Ella Kissel, while Winfield-Mount Union saw Bradie Buffington and Keetyn Townsley earn All-District honors.
Notre Dame head coach Mike Davis was the 1A Southeast All-District Coach of the Year.
Prep Football: State Football Championships Begin Today:
Champions will be crowned today in the UNI Dome with the start of the Iowa High School Football Championships.
Matchups today include finals in 8-Player, Class A, Class 1A and Class 4A.
Here are the matchups in full:
- Easton Valley vs. CAM, Anita — 8-Player
- Grundy Center vs. West Hancock — Class A
- West Sioux vs. Van Meter — Class 1A
- Lewis Central vs. Cedar Rapids Xavier — Class 4A

Prep Basketball: Mount Pleasant Hosting Mid-Prairie in Exhibition Bout Tomorrow:
The Mount Pleasant girls’ basketball team will host Mid-Prairie tomorrow in an exhibition matchup per head coach Curt Watson.
The Panthers’ will play a JV and Varsity “game” as a final tune-up before opening their season on the road at Pella next Tuesday night in a game you can you hear on KILJ.
Tomorrow’s matchup is apart of a community project in which the team will be collecting food cans for the Fellowship Cup.
JV will play at 6:00 p.m. with the varsity to follow at 7:30 p.m.
College Football: Iowa’s Linderbaum Named Outland Trophy Finalist:
University of Iowa junior center Tyler Linderbaum is one of six semifinalists for the 2021 Outland Trophy.
The announcement was made Wednesday.
Linderbaum has started 31 consecutive games at center for the Hawkeyes after playing as a defensive lineman as a true freshman.
Iowa has posted a 24-7 record during that span. Iowa won its final six games in 2020 and began the 2021 season with six straight wins.
The Hawkeyes (8-2, 5-2) are ranked 14th in the current coaches poll after being ranked No. 2 in the nation earlier this season.
The Solon, Iowa, native was tabbed a midseason first-team All-American by four outlets, including Associated Press, The Athletic, CBSSports.com and Sporting News.
