Prep Football: Panthers Fall in Thriller to Fairfield, Other Prep Finals:
The Mount Pleasant football team battled hard and had chances late but it was the Fairfield Trojans who came out on top with a 27-18 win over the Panthers last night at Mapleleaf Athletic Complex.
At one point trailing 20-6 in the third quarter, Mount Pleasant rallied for 12 straights points on Carson Coleman and Payton Hagans touchdowns rushes, but the Panthers would not get closer than 20-18.
Coleman had two total scores, including hooking up with Kyler Schott in the first quarter which knotted the game at 6-6.
Fairfield quarterback Tate Allen iced the game late in the 4th quarter with a touchdown scamper, brining his total touchdown mark to four.
Mount Pleasant, now 0-1, will be back at it next week at Washington.
The Trojans improved to 1-0.
Winfield-Mount Union 84, Moravia 34
The Winfield-Mount Union football team scored early and often as the Wolves rolled to a 84-34 win over Moravia in Winfield last night.
Cam Buffington made his debut at quarterback and showed out well.
Winfield was up 56-34 at halftime and never looked back.
The Wolves improved to 1-0, they’ll take on Iowa Valley in their homecoming contest.
Moravia fell to 0-1.
New London 52, Calamus-Wheatland 6
New London got their season started with a bang at home, securing a 52-6 win over Calamus-Wheatland.
Led by eight seniors, the Tigers jumped out a 14-0 lead after two possessions and controlled the game from there.
New London, now 1-0, will be off next week after Tri-County conceded their season.
The Tigers will be back in action on September 10th in a matchup of Henry County rivals at home against Winfield-Mount Union.
Kick is scheduled for 7:00 p.m.
WACO 56, Springville 24
WACO improved to 2-0 after a 56-24 thrashing of Springville on the road last night.
The Warriors have outscored their opponents 108-24 through two games.
The Warriors, now 2-0, will travel to HLV next week for a matchup with the Warriors.
Kickoff is scheduled for 7:00 p.m.

College Football: Wesleyan Ready for Season Opener:
The Iowa Wesleyan football team will look to start their season on the right foot today when they travel to take on Saint Ambrose on the road in the Quad Cities in their return to the NAIA ranks.
Wesleyan went 1-2 in their spring schedule and are hoping that spring boards them to a successful fall season.
Sophomore quarterback Gavin Esquivel is expected to make the start after showing out well in the spring and fall camp.
Kickoff is set for 1:00 p.m.
