Women’s College Basketball: Wesleyan Routs Grinnell

Iowa Wesleyan led 12-4 after one quarter and used a 16-2 second frame run to pull away for a 78-38 win over Grinnell last night.

Brielle Baker led all scorers with 22 points, finishing with five steals, four boards and three assists.

Brittany West added 18 points and six rebounds, while Kyla Moore ended with a 12-point, 10-rebound double double.

Iowa Wesleyan held Grinnell to just 24% from the field in the win.

Wesleyan will be off until Saturday when they travel to Columbia, Missouri for a matchup with Columbia College.

Tip is set for 12:00 p.m.

Men’s College Basketball: Cyclones Upset No. 25 Xavier

Izaiah Brockington poured in a game-high 30 points as Iowa State upended No. 25 Xavier last night in the first round of the NIT Season Tip-Off in Brooklyn.

Tyrese Hunter chipped in with 19 points and four boards, while George Conditt added 10 points and five rebounds.

The Clones will attempt to stay hot when they battle upstart Memphis in the tournament championship on Friday night.

Tip is set for 8:30 p.m.

College Football: Linderbaum Named Outland Trophy Finalist

University of Iowa junior center Tyler Linderbaum is one of three finalists for the 2021 Outland Trophy.

The announcement was made yesterday by university officials.

Linderbaum has started 32 consecutive games at center for the Hawkeyes after playing as a defensive lineman as a true freshman.

The Hawkeyes have posted a 25-7 record during that span.

Iowa won its final six games in 2020 and began the 2021 season with six straight wins.

If selected, Linderbaum would be the fifth Outland Trophy winner for the Hawkeyes, joining Brandon Scherff, Robert Gallery, Alex Karras and Calvin Jones.

Iowa will close their regular season Friday when they play at Nebraska.

College Football: Iowa DC Phil Parker a Finalist for Broyles Award

Iowa defensive coordinator Phil Parker has been named among 15 other coaches for the prestigious Broyles Award, given annually to the nation’s top assistant.

Parker has helped orchestrate another dominant Hawkeye defense that leads the nation with 19 interceptions and his third in total takeaways with 24.

Iowa is also seventh in scoring defense and 12th in total defense.

The award will be announced in late December.

NFL: Three Turkey Day Feasts:

The Detroit Lions will host the Chicago Bears in the opener of a three-pack of Thanksgiving games today in the NFL.

The Bears-Lions game will be followed up by Dallas hosting Las Vegas at 3:30 p.m.

The nightcap will see New Orleans hosting Josh Allen and the Buffalo Bills.

That game will begin at 7:20 p.m.
