Prep Cross Country: Danville-New London, Other Area Schools Ready for Debut:

The No. 1 ranked Danville-New London boys’ cross country team will open their season tonight on the road at Pekin as they look to begin their state title quest.

They’ll run at Wildwood Park in Ottumwa and be joined by Cardinal, Colfax-Mingo, E-B-F, English Valleys, Fairfield, Mediapolis, North Mahaska, Ottumwa, Sigourney, Twin Cedars, Van Buren County and Washington.

Meanwhile, WACO will travel to Keokuk for an invite to be ran at Elks Fairview Golf Club.

The Warriors will compete against Central Lee, Clark County, Fort Madison, Holy Trinity, Illini West, Mendon, Notre Dame and West Hancock.

All invites are boy-girl doubleheaders.

Prep Volleyball: Huge Slate of Area Volleyball:

Tonight promises to be a rather large night of area volleyball, with several area teams back on the hardwood.

One matchup to keep an eye on tonight will be Central Lee at New London, both teams remain loaded and it should be a great early season test for the No. 3 ranked Tigers.

Winfield-Mount Union travels to Pekin for a Super Conference North matchup, while WACO is at Keokuk for a triangular, where they will meet up with Wapello.

The Mount Pleasant volleyball team is also back in action tonight, when they travel to Albia.

The Panthers are coming off a 3-1 loss to Fairfield on Tuesday.

Other area action tonight:

  • Columbus at Mediapolis
  • Cardinal at Notre Dame

College Athletics: Iowa Wesleyan Updates COVID Policy: 

The Iowa Wesleyan athletic department has released updated information regarding the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic.

The University is currently under a mask requirement for all indoor buildings.

Therefore masks are required for all individuals who enter any building on Iowa Wesleyan’s campus. Masks must be worn by all spectators at all times while indoors. Violation of this will result in the individual being escorted from the premises.

Masks are not required to be worn at outdoor athletic events, however, social distancing is strongly encouraged.

The Ruble Arena and the Howe Activity Center remain closed to the public at this time.

College Volleyball: Iowa Wesleyan Swept by Mount Mercy:

The Iowa Wesleyan volleyball team was swept at the hands at Mount Mercy last night, losing 25-5, 25-10 and 25-19.

Freshman Malie DaMate led the Tiger offense with seven kills, while Emily Gehring added five.

Former New London standout Kyra Linkin had 14 digs in the back row, debuting as the Tiger libero.

The Tigers will be back on the hardcourt on Saturday, when they travel to take part in the William Penn tournament.

Mount Mercy improved to 4-5 with the win.
