Prep Volleyball: Premier Night of Action in the Super Conference:

The Southeast Iowa Super Conference will have a big night of volleyball tonight, with several big time matchups on the slate.

No. 1 Notre Dame, the defending Class 1A State Champions, will host Danville tonight, in a matchup that will have many eyes. The Nikes are off to a 14-4 start this season.

Other area matchups to peek at tonight include:

  • Lone Tree vs. Louisa-Muscatine
  • Highland vs. Pekin
  • Central Lee vs. Van Buren County
  • Cardinal vs. WACO
  • Columbus vs. Wapello

All Super Conference matches will begin tonight at 7:30 p.m.

Prep Cross Country: Mount Pleasant at Fairfield Invite Tonight:

The Mount Pleasant girls’ and boys’ cross country teams are back on the course this evening, with their first taste of conference action when they travel to the Fairfield Invitational.

The Panther girls’ are coming a fifth place finish overall at the Pella Invite, while the Panther boys’ finished sixth in the large school division there.

Panther girls’ head coach Lyle Murray says his team wants to compete again for the conference crown.

We always like to say that we’re going to compete for conference. That’s our goal. That’s what we expect.” 

We know it’s going to be hard” Murray said.

Racing for the varsity girls’ will begin at approximately 5:50 p.m. with the boys’ racing at 6:20 p.m.

The race will be held at Waterworks Park in Fairfield.

College Football: Iowa’s Moss Named B1G Defensive Player of the Week:

University of Iowa senior defensive back Riley Moss has been named the Big Ten Defensive Player of the Week, following No. 18 Iowa’s 34-6 win over No. 17 Indiana Saturday. The announcement was made earlier this week by the Big Ten Conference office.

Moss was also named the Walter Camp national Defensive Player of the Week, most recently, as well.

Moss became just the third player in school history to return two interceptions for touchdowns in a single game, adding a solo tackle and two pass break ups.

This is Moss’ first career Big Ten Player of the Week Award.

College Football: Iowa-Iowa State Goes National:

Iowa State’s rise has lifted the Cy-Hawk series to a national level.

Once considered a rivalry of regional interest, the 68th meeting will be a top ten clash and ESPN’s College Gameday will make another stop in Ames.

Iowa State enters the game ranked No. 9 in the latest AP Poll was Iowa is No. 10.

It’s great for our state, our university — the game itself it’s great for. Those things having a national presence, what a huge positive for everybody involved” head coach Matt Campbell explained.

Iowa has won five straight in the series and in those five games have not committed a turnover.

Saturday’s game will kick at 3:30 p.m. and you can listen on both FM 105.5 and FM 98.5 as well as AM 1130.
