Prep Volleyball: SEC Tournament Day Two Tonight:

The Mount Pleasant volleyball team will look to stay hot tonight when they take part in day two of the Southeast Conference tournament at Fairfield High School.

The Panthers went 3-0 dropping just one set on day one, sweeping both Fort Madison and Washington.

Tonight Mount Pleasant will link up with Keokuk and Fairfield.

The Trojans will be Mount Pleasant’s Class 4A-Region 3 First Round opponent one week from now.

The Panthers are 19-13 on the season while Fairfield is 9-19, yet the Trojans will host that tilt.

Prep Volleyball: Notre Dame Meets West Burlington, New London at Cardinal, Mediapolis Battles Winfield:

Get your popcorn ready, tonight’s action in the Super Conference will be Hollywood stuff.

At West Burlington tonight, powers collide when the Lady Falcons play host to 1A’s top ranked Notre Dame.

West Burlington enters play No. 9 in Class 3A and are 27-2 on the year.

Notre Dame, last year’s state champions, are 31-8.

West Burlington is paced by Sophia Armstrong and her 4.5 kills per set, while Gabby Derry leads Notre Dame with 4.0 kills per set.

Historically, West Burlington has won 12 of the last 18 against Notre Dame, but the Nikes have won two straight.

Tonight’s tilt will begin at 7:30 p.m.

Elsewhere, New London will travel to take on Cardinal this evening.

The Tigers are No. 13 in Class 1A this week and are 23-13 on the year, Cardinal is 4-24.

New London is looking for 20 consecutive wins against Cardinal — they’ve won 19 straight against the Comets.

They’ve also won four of five as they seem to be peaking at the right time.

Tonight’s game will start at 7:30 p.m.

In our other featured matchup, Winfield-Mount Union will play host to Mediapolis tonight.

The Lady Wolves are 19-10 on the year and have been playing some of the their best volleyball down the stretch — but as have Mediapolis.

Both teams have won their last five, so something will give tonight.

Mediapolis have won 19 of the last 20 fixtures between the two clubs, with Winfield-Mount Union breaking that streak last season in a 3-0 win.

Other area matchups:

  • Holy Trinity at Central Lee
  • Van Buren County at WACO
  • Lone Tree at Highland
  • Pekin at Wapello
  • Louisa-Muscatine at Columbus
