Prep Softball: New London Wins, Holy Trinity Falls Other Regional Finals:

New London 14, Hillcrest Academy 10

New London used an eight-run 4th inning to pull away for a 14-10 slugfest win over Hillcrest Academy last night.

The win advanced them to tonight’s second round matchup against No. 15 Winfield-Mount Union.

Claire Jones had two hits as did Elly Manning to provide the offensive spark for the Tigers.

Manning drove in four runs, Jones two.

Manning was also the winning pitcher, but was undone by errors by the New London defense. The sophomore went the distance allowing eight hits and 10 runs, only two of which were earned.

She struck out two.

Hillcrest rallied late in the 7th inning after Sarah Miller clubbed a three-run home run.

Two batters later Manning coaxed a ground ball to end the game.

The win moved New London to 7-22.

Tonight’s game at Winfield-Mount Union will begin at 7:00 p.m., you can listen on FM 105.5 and kilj.com.

This will be the second meeting between the two schools, with Winfield-Mount Union earning a 13-0 win earlier this year.
