Prep Baseball: Mediapolis Finds Offense, New London Wins..Again:

Mediapolis 29, Winfield-Mount Union 3 

Mediapolis scored 13 times in the 3rd inning, as the Bulldogs sprinted past Winfield-Mount Union 29-3 yesterday in a four-inning win.

Cole Lipper went a perfect 6-for-6 at the plate with seven runs batted in, while Aidan Danz had five hits and five RBI.

Winfield-Mount Union’s offense was led by David Nichols and Luke Pfeifer, who each singled.

Danz was the pitcher of record for Mediapolis, striking out four.

Mediapolis improved to 9-6, Winfield-Mount Union sunk to 1-13.

New London 7, Cardinal 3 

New London 14, Cardinal 0 

New London rolled to a pair of victories last night over Cardinal, winning 7-3 in game one and 14-0 in game two.

Brendan Richey had two hits and two runs batted in for the Tigers in the opener.

Carter Allen and Kooper Schulte also drove in a lone run.

New London was walked eight times.

Hecniel Rodriguez was the starting pitcher, dancing out of danger with six strikeouts despite seven walks.

He allowed one earned run.

Tucker Gibbar closed the door on the Comets with three innings of relief striking two.

In game two, Gibbar was the star at the plate racking up three hits and four RBI as New London dominated.

The Tigers scored eight runs in the 3rd inning to break the game open.

Carter Allen allowed just four hits while striking out four.

New London improved to 11-0.

Prep Softball: Winfield-Mount Union Bounces Back, Mount Pleasant Wins Their First:

Winfield-Mount Union 10, Mediapolis 0 

Madie Anderson fired a complete game one-hitter as Winfield-Mount Union bounced back from a tough loss with a 10-0 win over Mediapolis last night.

Anderson struck out 15 and did not walk a hitter.

Keely Malone had three hits including two doubles.

Kayreana Sharar tripled for the Lady Wolves, while Anna Anderson clubbed a home run.

Winfield-Mount Union improved to 10-3.

They’ll take on New London tonight in our featured matchup on KILJ-FM.

First pitch from New London is set for 7:00 p.m. this evening.

Mount Pleasant 4, Mid-Prairie 0 

Madison Helling led the way in the circle, hurling a one-hit shutout as Mike Beason and the Mount Pleasant softball team got win No. 1 this year.

Helling struck out two hitters in her shutout.

Grace Kelley, Savana Walls and Emma Starr each had two hits.

Jersey Beachy had a hit and a RBI.

Mount Pleasant upped their ledger to 1-17.

Central Lee 10, Holy Trinity 0 

Sophie Turner was dynamite for Central Lee, spinning a perfect game as the Hawks crushed Holy Trinity 10-0.

Turner struck out four hitters in the shortened five-run contest.

Bailey Schwartz led the Central Lee offense with three singles.

The Hawks pounded out 14 hits.

Central Lee improved to 8-4.

Holy Trinity slipped to 3-8.

College Football: Drake Releases 2021 Schedule:

The Drake University football team has announced their upcoming fall schedule.

The Bulldogs will play an 11-game season starting Thursday, September 2nd against Division II power West Virginia Wesleyan.

They’ll follow that tilt with consecutive road trips to Montana State and North Dakota.

They’ll open the Pioneer League schedule September 25th at Drake Stadium against Valparaiso.
