The First Look at the Girls State Qualifiers for Track and Field

State Track and Field- With the state qualifying meets now in the books, this is the initial list of state qualifiers for our local girls’ teams.

In Class 1A, Winfield-Mt. Union will have two events as Keetyn Townsley will be running the 100 meter hurdles as she snuck in at the 24th spot with a time of 17.11 seconds. Her best time for the season is 16.97 seconds. Townsley will join Tessa Huston, Keyreana Sharar, and Josie Nelson for the 4×100 meter shuttle hurdle thanks to their 1st place finish yesterday. They slot in the 6th position with a time of 1 minute and 9.9 seconds.

Alaina Gourley, a freshman, will be busy at the state track meet for Danville as she will be racing in the 400 meter dash and the 800 meter run individually. She ranks 8th in the 400 meter dash with her time of 1 minute 0.56 seconds and 13th in the 800 meter run with a time of 2 minutes and 28.57 seconds. The team of Kamryn Sherwood, Jaeda Molle, Miya Orbiana, and Gourley will be competing in the 4×400 meter relay and the 4×800 meter relay. Lastly, Kenna Furnald ranks 17th in the long jump after her leap of 15 feet 11.25 inches.

In Class 2A, Mediapolis will have the 4×200 meter relay team of Bailey Jackson, Kira Messer, Josie Hutcheson, and Haley Steffener competing after running a time of 1 minute and 50.75 seconds. Steffner will also be competing in the high jump, qualifying with a leap of 4 feet 10 inches.

Mt. Pleasant will be in five different events for Class 3A. Andi Scott will be running in the 100 meter dash as she qualified with a time of 13.14 seconds. Rellana Van Deuren enters the 400 meter hurdles with the 15th best time from the qualifying meet with a time of 1 minute and 9.13 seconds. Scott will join Courtney Raub, Bailey Jalas, and Tristian Shull for the 4×100 meter relay. Kynlee White joins Jalas, Raub, and Scott to run the 4×200 meter relay. Lastly, Ava English will be throwing the shot put after throwing a personal best 37 feet 3 inches at the qualifier.

Washington will have Keely Collins in the high jump, Iris Dahl in the 800 meter run and 1500 meter run, and Leighton Messinger in the 100 meter hurdles. The Demons will also have two relays. The 4×400 meter relay team of Voss, Messinger, Eden Levetzow, and Dahl. Additionally, the 4×800 meter relay team of Voss, Lauren Horak, Kendall Hinrichsen, and Dahl.

Maya Lane, Lily Bergren, Hayley Reinier, and Isabel McCready will run the 4×100 meter shuttle hurdles for Fairfield.

For Fort Madison, Avery Rump will run the 1500 meter run and the 3,000 meter run, where she ranks 4th among other qualifying times. Hailey Kemper will participate in the 400 meter hurdles.

In Class 4A, Burlington will be participating in four events. Mylee Stiefel will compete in the 100 meter dash as she ranks 6th coming out of the qualifier. Christella Boyer will be joining her in the 100 meter dash coming into the meet with a time of 12.97 seconds. Kierah Wiseman will be sprinting in the 200 meter dash. Wiseman, Boyer, Stiefel, and Sophie Brown ranks 3rd in the 4×100 meter relay and 4th in the 4×200 meter relay.

Madelyn Houk will compete in the long jump for Ottumwa. Delilah Subsin will throw the discus as she enters with a throw of 113 feet 2 inches. Jordan Pauls will also be tossing the discus. Subsin is eyeing the shot put title as she enters the event ranked 5th.

The State Track and Field meet will begin on May 18th at Drake Stadium and run through the 20th.
